Been working on this deal for about a year and a half. 86 VF1000R, 50K miles.

The previous owner lives about a half block from me. It is a well maintained daily commuter bike that runs perfect.

    $800. And here's why...

Crashed on the freeway (I-5). Not sure how fast but the story sounded like it was in some traffic. A clutch master cylinder and left foot peg and bracket and it is ridable. It has braided lines all around. There were 86 VFR750 mirrors that he had painted red just to be different. It actually looked pretty cool. No idea how the right mirror broke in the crash. It needs tires and fork seals (and new front pads). Not sure what my plan is. Think I'm gonna get the essentials taken care of and ride it in the rain for a bit. But some ebay parts, new fork seals and pads, and 2 tires is gonna be a few dollars. I recently sold a complete piece of shit 1974 MR50 for $500, so that helped pay for a good portion of the purchase price. Oh and he had an extra front Comstar.

Looks good. Does not look it was a high speed crash. More like a low speed Doh!
    An '86 for Captain 80's. :)

I agree. fair price: and looks fixable within a budget that should keep you above water (or at least even) if that's important to you.

Not a deciding factor as far as end result vs. value, within reason. The journey I put value on as well. But I agree, this one has decent potential. I have the left half of some 85 1000R upper and lower cowls in really good shape that I have on the wall as art. The other side was completely destroyed on a 1000R that I restored with some other fairings, so I cut them down the middle and hung them up. I think I'm going to combine the two halves and glass them together. Might even keep the lowers as two parts with a couple extra brackets.

I have the master cylinder, a perfect set of Kerker slipons and stock mufflers whichever way I want to go, a left switch assy and a left rear peg assy. Only thing I need to buy is the driver peg assy, and of course some consumables.

Here's the potential left side donor "art".

Here's a quarter of the purchase price.

    Did some exploratory work.

No bad surprises. Upper cowling stay took a shot.

The center of the fuse cover should be inline with the ignition and high beam indicator. Yikes. I'll do some straightening later and see, might be able to save it.

The handlebar and clutch lever are amazingly not bent at all, but the inner weight is jammed up in there.

Pretty convinced I will be combining the 2 good halves of fairings eventually. Way easier and why not. And he had completely drained the tank, it's perfect inside. I did get a little fuel out of the carbs, but it didn't smell like death. I will hang an aux tank to run it hopefully this weekend, I want to keep the tank empty for now.

That looks almost too good to be a doner bike...

Not sure what you mean. The only thing that is going to be a donor is the already cut-in-half cowlings off the wall to combine with the "good" right side that came on the bike.
