    Hey Guys

Great forum for all the tricky little problems ive run into so far. Now on to my real issue the Gas Tank. Mine is full of rust after having been stored incorrectly, I was wondering if anyone on here knows if a tank from a 1894 VF 700 would fit my 1984 VF 500.

Has Anyone tried to do soething like this in the past. Or any ideas on the best way to fix a rusted tank. Im not the most mechinacally inclined but have made it this far with little to no problems.

Thanks in adavance for all your help

An acid wash and then a tank liner would probably do the trick if it isn't rusted through anywhere. Had to do it with my '86 700 and it's lived up to my expectation thus far.

Molasses will strip all the rust out, takes a while but it will get it out and then do a tank liner like POR15 or similar, takes time but not a lot else you can do.

U need a full study of the subject, so start googling "rusty fuel tank" etc. to see the cleaning methods. After a proper clean-out, apply a preservative coating.

Try Metal Rescue. Its available at Home Depot as well as a few other places. I am using it on my 86 750 and the stuff works very well.
