Well I got a few more items I would like to do to my 1984 Honda VF500F, for these I thought some input would be nice. 1) Valve adjustment.. Should I take it into the shop and pay $150.00 or should I do it myself?? I've never done a valve adjustment but with the manual I feel I can do it, Just how well will the turn out be? I work at a repair station for aviation so the use of tools should not be a problem. How hard is it? 2) Installing a K&N Dyno Jet Kit.. I bought this NOS off ebay for a few bucks. I'm running a K&N air filter, aftermarket headers, and Supertrapp pipes will the jet kit be beneficial? How hard will it be to install, I cleaned the carb by myself when I bought the bike. The instuction says there is drilling involed, scary! 3) With that Jet Kit also came Spilt Fire Spark Plugs.. Now i've heard good and bad things about these. What's your insight? Thanks for any of your thoughts, Crazyridin'
1. Do it yourself. ValveTrain/ValveClearanceAdjustment - SabMagFAQ 2. Does the Supertrapp replace the entire exhaust system. If not, you more than likely don't need to rejet. Even if you do need to rejet, I'd up the slows and mains one step and send the Dyno Jet kit back. Everyone I've talked to says it's not worth it. 2a. The drilling is drilling a hole in the sides of the the vacuum slides for faster throttle response. But faster throttle response is not needed. 3. Use the recommended NGK plugs...unless you feel that lightening your wallet will make the bike go faster.
DO NOT install the Dynojet kit, they are simply awful. The drilling of the very expensive slides would be huge mistake. Opt for a Factory Pro kit instead, they are the only kits that I've found that actually dial-in right.
