Anyone either have a spec. manual or knowledge of the alternator output from the stock alternator (in watts) for my 1985 vf500f. I am running heated gear and a GPS & cell phone charger. The bike is running fine, but I am having a very difficult time determining what the alternator & stock battery size can handle in-terms of draw??? Knowing the wattage output value is all I need! Thanks in advance for any information anyone can share here.

I think it's 300 or 350 watts. Since W=V*A and we have a 12V system that solves to 25-30A total consumption. Heated gear draws 5A or more, so it's probably exceeding the limits. You probably won't notice this right away because we are drawing from the battery when the gear is ON but the battery has a chance to recharge when you back off the heat (I'm assuming this is what you do). Pretty much it's a recipe for trouble. Some have reported dead batteries just from the added draw of high-output headlights.

You might want to check your battery voltage with the engine running at 4000rpm with all of your accessories turned on. This should indicate if you are putting too much of a demand on the system.

What would an acceptable voltage be with all of the accessories running @ 4000 RPM? I'm asking this for a 3rd gen vfr (1990)

I have the following accessories to power: HID headlamps (which may draw less than stock, I don't know) Heated jacket and 12V outlet to charge my Droid Razr phone while using navigation.

My FSM states 15.8A @ 2000 RPM (no load), 18.5A @5000 RPM (no load).
