So, I finally bought myself a saber. Have been wanting one since they first came out (I was then riding a cb350...). The one I purchased had been in storage for 2 years and so, did not idle properly (only idled with choke fully on). I removed the carbs, cleaned the out carefully twice as there was lots of varbish and build up. (made the mistake of getting carb spray on the rubber parts but cleaned them up and don't see tears). I cracked or the first Bakelite connector. Honda no longer supports parts older than 10 years and so I was literally told to buy a new bike by the customer service guy. I decided to build a new connector one out of copper tube. Seems to work well. So, here are my issues:
1-idles very roughly and tach doesn't seem to climb but engine sounds like it is climbing. I did remove the carbs from the plenum to rebuild the fuel rail.
2-Petckcock dribbles gas out of the left nozzle onto the engine. I can't see where a hose would run to as there are no open connections on the airbox or fuel rail/carbs (then again, should the fuel be dribbling out of the left nozzle on the petcock?)
I think I need to rebuild the petcock.
When I look up rebuild kits, some include one diaphram, some include large and small diaphrams and others include the fuel shut off rubber plate but NOt both of the diaphrams.
Does anyone know of a seller for a complete kit (that does not cost a fortune?). basic kits seem to float between $14-$18 u.s.
I am also looking for 4 float bowl gaskets or a rebuild kit with gaskets. Gaskets seem to range from $5-$8 u.s. and kits from $14-$20 u.s. which include lower gasket, neede ale some o-rings.
Do the needles usually have to replaced if they were sitting idle for a few years (providing there are no corrosion issues)?
I will add a picture of the petcock valve (if I can figure out how)
drop me a line if you have any for sale or have a good link. Thanks

Ooooh one more question. From seating pose, on the front coil, is the left plug to be attached to left side of coil and right plug ro to right side of coil? Is there a problem if they are switched?

    Thanks

Ordered 4 float gaskets for about $22 from Sirius consolidated. Had found a U.S. site that was selling carb kits (needle, gasket, o-rings) for $14 but could not find it the 2nd time I searched. Still looking for some Plenum advice. I expect the gas dribbling out of the left tube is caused by a weak rubber seal that is allowing fuel to slip between the "feed" area and the vacuum" area.
Anyone out there with a full plenum kit they want to sell, let me know (with upper and lower seals and gaskets).
Does the rough idling and unresponsive tach sound like an electrical problem or a unsynchronized carb problem? Thanks

The tach is controlled by the #1/3 ignition box in the tail section. It's on the right side. Check the connections there. They will corrode some and not make contact. If it still doesn't work after that then it's most likely the box. My 1/3 went bad that way. Tach would only go to 2500 then drop to zero plus 1/3 cylinders didn't fire. You can swap the boxes around to get 1/3 cylinders to fire but not the tach. It will only function with a 1/3 box.

    Further to the above

Checked those. My spark tool tells me that all 4 are firing (and plugs seem fine). I will have to remove carbs to add new gaskets. I may have slipped a synchro spring in the wrong spot or something like that.

To quote the sign in my proctologist's office waiting area
"If I am late for our appointment, don't blame me. Blame the asshole ahead of you."
Actually, it's my quote but VFR members can use it. Everyone else beware.
