I was just trying to find out what the best time a 98 vfr can do on a drag strip and could not find the info anywhere. just wandering if any of you have run your vfr and what your time and speeds were stock and modified.

So much depends on the rider. My guess is that a stock bike should run a low 12s in the 1/4 mile. To get a faster pass, you would need to lower the gearing ( more teeth on rear sprocket, perhaps one less on the front ). Adding enough HP to produce a big drop your ET, well, your on the wrong bike. Search TORO CHARGER.

One local guy did the quarter in 15 flat. He holds the world record for guys who weigh as much as thier bikes.

    I've read low 12's too.

Hmmm...wonder if Slick 50 could drop the time more?

Word has it they greased this guy up with Bardahl. Damn Norwegians!

I'm thinking that in these "numbers" posts in general, a lot is left out. I rode a bit this last summer with a top roadracer of a few years ago. He is soaking wet maybe 135 lbs. In shap has the reflexes of a cobra, probably 20/15 sight or better, a well functioning cerebral cortex and balls as big as most of us mere mortals would like to think we have.. The question then becomes if this guy was riding the average VFR unprepped for an eighth or a quarter and I had my 215 lb. ass in the saddle, who is gonna be faster, me or him?

Apologies to all the metric dudes out there. Think furlongs.

I ran my 98 down the strip once......I ran an 11.82 but don't remember the MPH's or the 60' time. I weigh 230 lbs and didn't have a perfect launch

BTW, this is with a stock 98.

As mentioned, I think a lot comes down to ability and info on the rider. Its about the "power to weight ratio". I seem to recall reading "something at some point" that put the 2000 VFR in the low 11 seconds, but that was with a professional.

I'm weighing in at 240lbs. It stands to reason that if I go against a guy that weighs 150, and we have identical bikes and skills, he wins. A 100hp engine will move less weight quicker and faster.

Slightly off topic here: There is a show on Speed TV called Pass Time. Forget the details if you haven't seen it, but there was a 17 year old "kid" that ran his 2008 Hayabusa, all stock except for the exhaust, it had 26 miles on it (he towed it to the track) and he did the quarter somewhere in the low 9's at 160mpg +/-. This kid knew what he was doing - no wheel spin, no outrageous wheelies. Just skill.

And more off topic: I have a friend that is the proud owner of 2008 Porsche GT3. He's got it chipped and aftermarket exhaust. Boy does he get PISSED when I tell him my 5th Generation (with a value of $5,000???) will outrun his $120,000 car! :)

here is a scan from Cycle World Bike of the Year 1992, would imagine Gen3 and 4 are very similar given the relative power/weights
