I'm looking at an '06. It currently has just under 10,000kms.

I'm hoping that someone could advise me as to when & what the next scheduled servicing consists of, & of the cost of such servicing.

(I found a chart on-line for the '07's & if I read it correctlly, it seemed there wasn't anything major until 13,000 kms.)

The mileage is 3400kms more than originally listed, so I'm trying to figure if I should ask for a lower price & by how much. (It has ABS & seller is asked $8000 Can.) Don't want to pay the price for what was originally advertised as having less mileage only to find that I have to immediately spend a lot on maintenance.

    Thanks.

the 6th gen.'s big maintentance thing, besides oil changes, chain lube, and the usual inspections, is the valve adjustment at 16,000 mi. (2X,000 km?), so you've got a while for the big stuff. But I've heard guys say that runs $5-750 american, so it's expensive.
I don't know the conversion for canadian to american, but you can look on e-bay to compare prices. $5500-6500 american sounds about right, a little more for the ABS model.

Attached is the maintenance schedule from the service manual. Note that the numbers shown under KM are missing a decimal. It should say 1.0 instead of 10, 6.4 instead of 64, 12.8 instead of 128... etc.

This information should be in your MOM (Motorcycle Owner's Manual). If you haven't done it yet, I highly suggest downloading the Service Manual. You can get it here for free: http://vfrworld.com/forums/parts-se...nloadable-parts-catalogs-service-manuals.html

It is the 2002 Service Manual. Weighs in just under 200MB.

first valve adjustment on 6th gen is at 16k miles... until then regular oil changes and normal maintance..i would dare to say that the 16k interval could go towards 20k..........but what do i know i only had 14 bikes and have been riding 30 years

Skip the Valve adjustment. You should ahve a long way to go before you need that. Mine wasn't done until around30 - 35,000 km and it made absolutely no difference. I just turned 82,000 km and had it serviced a few weeks agao. I mentioned the valves to the tech and he said if it is running fine, then leave it alone. Mine is an 06 as well.

The price being asked does seem just a bit high though. I think he would probably come down a bit. Unless of course he is just posting it for sale to see what he could get. If he were to drop it one or 1 1/2 grand, then you got a great price.

    Good luck.
