Hi all. My '05 model is doing weird things all of a sudden.

It seems to be getting hot faster than usual. When riding in medium traffic, the temp will climb quickly (dead cold to about 95c in about 4 minutes, normally takes about 10 minutes) and then stays hot. It's a bit difficult to describe... It would normally take about 90-120 seconds to rise from 98c to 105c on a cool day (15c-20c ambient). At the moment it seems to take about 30 seconds. This has me confused, as the temp drops at a normal rate once the thermo fan starts at 105c, or once I start moving at speed. So it seems to me that there is no difference in the cooling system function, but rather a change in the speed of heating.

    Have checked:
No visible obstructions to the radiator
    Correct coolant level
    Thermo fan operates correctly

    Any assistance greatly appreciated.

    TIA

hmm i was about to say i guess winters over, but i guess its fall down there now... does the exhust sound the same? maybe clogged? backpressure equals heat. is there a way to check that coolants flowing through both radiators properly? are they both getting hot at the same rate? thermostat stuck closed?

Hi Candy, yes it's Autumn (fall) here now, so a lot cooler than a couple of months ago.

Bike runs fine, no different exhaust note. Have not checked both radiators, but the heat coming from both sides felt fairly equal last night. I would have thought that if the thermostat was stuck closed, then there would not be any coolant routed to the radiators in the first place...?

Thanks for the help, will check the radiators tonight on the way home.
