I have a 2004 vfr with 27,000 miles. Runs great. Daily driver. But about two weeks ago. I was cruising at 4500-5000 rpm down the freeway for awhile, and all of a sudden the bike had a loss of power and started cutting out, like it was running on two cyclinders. The FI light never came on, and the cutting out lasted for about 30 seconds. Then just went away and never did it again. Until yesterday, I was cruising home from work, about 5000 rpm, and it started sputtering again. I gave it more throttle and could get it to maintain speed, about 30 seconds later goes away, and ran fine the rest of the way home. Once again, no FI light, and the light does work. Cause it momentarly goes on when first turning on the bike. Both times the bike engine was at 170-180 degrees. Seems wierd it would be so random and I do the same drive daily, cruising at the same rpm's. SO the situation that it happens in, is repeated every day. Has anyone had a simular experience? The previous owner said he had no issues ever with the bike and ran fine. The bike is bone stock, with a K&N air filter. Thanks everyone
Hi, If it is happening somewhat randomly, can you tell us if it is on a full or partial tank of fuel? That *can* be symptomatic of a dirty fuel filter if it lasts for a few minutes rather than a few second - it's not necessarily spark. If it isn't fuel, then I guess it's gotta be spark. At 27K miles, how're the plug wires and plugs? Could the wires be arcing to somewhere and losing spark depending on you going over a bump or something that bends them and opens a crack in the insulation? Just some thoughts to consider. K
ikavo, thanks for your input. When it did it yesterday, I had just filled up at the gas station. The first time, I don't remember. I havn't had time to pull the tank, and look at the plugs or any wiring yet. The fuel filter is a good point, didn't think of that. As I said, I ran some fuel system cleaner through a tank, about a month ago, and that seemed to get the bike running a little smoother. I will see if it tries cutting out on me again later today. I'm going to take it for a cruise after work and try to repeat the process. I'll pay close attention to bumps in the road, or anything that happens moments before it reoccurs. Thanks again
