I have an 04 VFR with 25,000 miles. I just picked the bike up a couple weeks ago. I've only put about 500 miles on the bike, seems to run fine. But the clutch grabs when the lever is out almost all the way (about 90%). Is there a way to adjust it to grab about half way out from the grip? I've played with the adjuster, and can't seem to get it to change much. Never had anything with a hydrolic clutch before. How long has anyone gone before a new clutch is needed? I ordered the workshop manual, but won't have it for a few more days. Any info would be appreciated.

    VFR Clutch

I had a 1999 VFR and had the same problem. I'll keep an eye on your thread to see if anyone has any idea's. I'm looking at grabbing a 2008 VFR.

It's a hydraulic clutch. What that means is it's non-adjustable and thus maintenance free. What you've been "adjusting" is nothing more than the lever's range for hand sizes. It does to a very small degree alter the engagement point but nothing drastic as you've found out.

Honda hydraulic clutches typically engage in the latter part of the travel. Also if the clutch has had a hard life in it's 25k miles of use, it might need replacing. Is it slipping or chattering?

    fotomoto,
sounds good. yes as i've found out, that there really isn't any adjustment as you said. the bike is at 27,000 miles, no sign of chatter or slipping. i've become used to the feel of it and isn't a big deal anymore. apreciate the help.

My used 02 had a slight judder on take out at 19k miles but no slipping. Upon inspection, the discs looked OK and within spec but the plates were all discolored.

I replaced it with a barnet clutch only because I could get it cheaper than OEM. Even with their hd springs, it still engages at the same point. FWIW

Well, I appreciate the info. Good to know. I does seem like most aftermarket items are cheaper than OEM parts. Which is what I would do too.
    Thanks again, Ian
