purchased a used 03 vfr. guy that sold it to me put in a brand new battery.

i charge up the battery and put it in, bike starts without a hitch.
go for a two hour ride, turn off the bike, can't turn it back on. no charge in the battery.
bike has power commander installed. could that be a problem?

what should i take a look at?

    Hi hanz,

This sounds like a regulator/rectifier (r/r) problem. Charge your battery and make sure it has around 12 volts. Then start your bike. Get a volt meter, preferably digital, set it for the correct voltage level (on mine it is ~20), and put the leads on the baterry terminal, red to positive, black to negative. Then, while hoding the leads tothe battery, rev the engine to about 5,000 rpm. you should have areading at the battery of about 14.5 volts. If so, the problem is not the charging system. If not, then it could be the r/r or it could be a loose or corroded connection in the circuit.

Someone else please chime in if I have left something out.

    Vinny

You are welcome for the help. I ran into the same issue on an 86 radian. Went thru 2 batteries before someone said replace the r/r as it conuld be charging intermittently and not yet completely failed. After Ichanged it Ihad no further problems. I ahd even had it to the bike shop and they founf nothing wrong. Go figure. Glad it working now for you. Now go out and enjoy your toy!
