I agree , and when I have disassembled this , there was some dry brown paste that seemed to be 29 yo stock . So some grease or paste was there...
Besides the ST1100 is a drive shaft model , it makes sense to protect those connection's with greaze/paste for various hazards.

The strange is that the rapair manual don't say to use some paste/grease. But it should.
Unfortunately I only have some lithium enriched with molybdenum grease from PETRONAS. Don't know if I can use this instead.
Everything disassembled and seems all good . Bearings still good , no noise , will give it a good clean and grease everything again and put back...
