I never said it's not tolerable, but it's not very safe or comfortable. I rode back from Phoenix wearing leather, 105 degrees, and I about passed out from heat exhaustion. And yes I was well hydrated.

I was just responding to the non-leather snobs. At least people are wearing gear and it is better than nothing. Also, not everyone has the money to buy a $500 Dianese or A* jacket!!

Thanks Zona, I agree with you. We desert dwellers know you can tolerate something but that tolerance may still make for a relatively unsafe situation...if you are woozy from the heat your brain is NOT making smart decisions. Go with the right tool for the job, of course. Not crashing wearing mesh is better than crashing with leather. And yes, any gear is better than nothing. Having slid on mesh I do tend to "soapbox" about leather. And it IS spendy but I felt I could not afford NOT to buy the stuff. I don't mind peanut butter and tuna for a few months if I can get the good stuff. Everybody has to find the best solution for them. If we insisted on the safest situation we probably woudn't ride at all.

Drove through there last weekend. I spend about half my time (work) in Merrimack.
