Been lurking here a while and thought it was about time I posted since I've just become the proud owner of a 2005 Interceptor in red. I've only added a few hundred miles to the previous owners 4500 but so far I'm very pleased.

My previous bike was a 2001 Triumph Sprint ST which was written off about a month ago after a pickup truck pulled out on me while I was overtaking it. Its too soon to make a detailed comparison but so far I've found the riding position on the VFR to be more relaxing on the wrists and the engine to be less jerky when tootling along at low revs. I love the surge of power and sound from the stock exhaust when the extra valves open around 7000rpm !

First Response, first VFR... Hope you are healed up fine after the truckin' episode. Don't forget to add your location in your profile so folks can ride with you, help you out, drink your cold beverages... etc. and those pictures... let's see the ST and the VFR :)

Welcome Hadders, pull up a lawn chair. :thumb:

Welcome to the forum hadders! Glad to have you aboard. Great folks here.

Also glad to have you back up on two wheels after your "incident" involving the pick-up. That can't have been fun! Yikes!

Thanks for the welcome, since a few of you asked...

I'm mostly healed up from the crash now, just a couple of scabs and a few aches and pains left. I low-sided but hit the road pretty hard and slid a ways, no broken bones fortunately. I was wearing a summer mesh jacket and pants and they pretty much disintegrated after the initial impact so I got a bit of road rash on one knee, both elbows and one forearm. Boots, gloves and helmet were also trashed but held together, I'm sure glad I was wearing all that stuff. All things considered I got off pretty lightly.

I did consider giving up riding for a few days after the accident but I enjoy it too much so once I got over the initial shock I started looking around for a new bike. I've always liked VFRs so when I found a low mileage one in mint condition I went for it.

I'll try to attach a picture of my old bike after the crash and one of the jacket. I'll be wearing leather from now on...

I took about 8 months off but had to come back. It is important to know what is right for you. Thanks for the info. And mesh does "go away" quickly when sliding. I ride nothing but Italian leather now...
    :soapbox:

Besides, we look so cool in leather! :vanity:

Hadders - At what speed did you go down? Sorry you had to be a guinea pig for proving vulnerability mesh. But glad you're OK.

Oh, and welcome! Check out NESR if you're not already on that forum.

I have not had the feeling of not wanting to ride again. Im usually pissed because its broke and now I cant ride it. I think its the Ill show you attitude :)

Welcome. Also, I say at least you were wearing protective gear - period. It may not be as good as leather, but it's something and better than nothing.

:soapbox:You guys preaching about leather - come on down to Tucson and ride around town with me for a few minutes in your Italian leather - perfed or not. I'll let you borrow my Joe Rocket Phoenix 5.0. :flame:

I have a leather jacket too and it gets hung up when it becomes 85 at 6:00 in the morning and 110-115 at 3:00.

So far I have worn my perf'd Dainese up to 94 degrees here in Tucson and found it tolerable, ZonaMan. Will I make it when it is over 100? I'll let you know in a week or two. I do have the KTM mesh jacket in reserve if I can't hack it. (That would be a good thread...what is the most protective synthethic jacket/pants combo...?)
