I recently acquired my brand new 2005 Viffer. I literally had to learn on this bike how to ride a bike. It's a work in progress. I went away for a weekend meander on the bikes with 2 of my mates this weekend. The one has a '05 Blade and the other has a brand new R1. My beautiful blue baby looked a bit chubby next to these speed freaks. However, thousands of twisties, straights, good weather, bad weather, dry weather, wet weather and some of the most awesome views later, it is clear that me and my Viffer can hold our own with them any day. This thing's handling is fantastic... and at the end of 3 hours of HARD riding, my ass is still doing much better than theirs. Any suggestions or comments on taking the VFR to a track day?
better all around machine I was speaking with Brian Slark (Norton Spoken Here, Barber Museum) and told him that my Ducatisti friends called my VFR a Very Fine Refrigerator. Brian said, tell the Bastards that when you open the refrigerator door, the light always comes on. You'll find faster bikes, but few better. However, you can outrun and idiot on a faster bike most anyday. I recently humiliated 2 Hyabusas on the Copperhead (Hwy 25 Alabama) with a VTR 250, then a friend spanked a Ducati 999 with it. The Busas and Duck could never get into their powerband. It was a great experience in bad behavior.:drum: Find out your S.A. rules for the trackday. You'll have a great learning experience and a great time!
You humbled a Busa? Woohoo! I need to be a muuuuuch better rider before I can attempt that. What I was interested in on the topic of track days is (and this might be a very stupid question) whether the Viffer is nimble enough to take to track days... and have fun! I was told that only real superbikes should do track days. From what I read here, it seems that the Viffer is more than suitable for a high-speed track day.
The determining factor is you! A track day is not a "real" race. Some tracks even allow cruisers. The VFR will work for a track day if you are skilled enough. I'm not sure what training is available in South Africa, but get some training! Track days are fun, just know the rules. Streetracing is a truly dangerous proposition, but on a track day, you don't have to worry about Grandma pulling out in front of you when you're at warp speed. My previous point was that you can ride anything fast, if you have the skills.
