    2002 vfr800 10,000 miles. K&N, Remus exhaust.

When "bliping" the throttle bike will stall - scary in some situations I might add

Adjusted idle to 1,500 RPM still have same problem

I am thinking with the exhaust and filter the fuel map is improper

Before droping the $ on a PCIII I am wondering your thoughts if this may be the cure or if others have had the same problem w a different fix?

    - This VFR is by far the best motorcycle I have ever been on - Just stalls from time to time ???

Well not sure if the power commander will help with the stalling. I have an 04 with K&N and gutted stock cans. Never had issues with it stalling or running any different. Mine idles at 1000 rpm very smoothly. The power commander will help gain the full benifit of the add-ons. There may be another issue going on? Did it ever have this problem before you did any of the add-ons?

I'm agreeing w/Hondawolf here. Sounds like something else than just ECU fuel mapping. The PCIII will help with the on/off throttle sensation at very low speed, but that's usually not associated with any kind of stalling....at least that I've ever heard of.

It started doing it about a month ago - Never had the problem before with add ons. I wonder what could be causing this. I notice it happening more right after I gas up if that means anything (not the only time it does it though) I wonder if high octaine fuel or maybe an additive may help? Can't imagine I am the only one ever experiencing the problem. Bike is in mint condition and stock otherwise and very well maintained....this is frustrating. Thanks for the input

Even with the power commander, I don't know why, if I blimp from 2nd to first, it may happen. Most the time it wont stall but the revs drops to 700 rpm. So you can blimp every where but not from 2nd to first. When that happens to me, before the bike stall, I rev the engine up to 7000 rpm and it backs to normal. As far I know the VFR only stall in this situation.

Very similar issues with my 5th gen. PC cleared it up I'd say 90%, also improved low speed throttle control.

    But other things to try:
    • Make sure your air filter is clean
    • How old are your plugs?
    • Fuel filter
    • One bottle of fuel injector cleaner with a fresh tank of gas and go for a fun run (ie don't drive for fuel economy).
Higher octane? Other's will say I'm full of shit, but these bikes are designed to run on crap low octane gas, so don't switch to higher octane permanently.
That being said, a tank of premium can't hurt.

So do all that, and see if it cleans up a bit. The only other time I had stalling like that was leading up to my RR failure...

Very useful input. SLOav8r...I was actualy thinking about the plugs and air filter as well. I will do all of those on your list tomorrow night. Marcosdm...you are right, only time it does it is bliping the throttle from 2nd to 1st, or while in 1st. I bought the bike w 8k on it and it has about 10.6 on it now - imagine plugs won't hurt it nor will a fuel filter. It's Such a precision machine otherwise - I think that's why this little glich bugs me so much. Once again thanks and I will work on it. If I do make it go away completely I will definetly share the answer.

    Happy riding

P.S. SLOav8r..RR failure? I am assuming some kind of regulator? I had a TR fail on my superhawk, it just went for dead in an instant though.

If it does it more often with a full tank of fuel...you may want to check your fuel tank vent line for kinking...or obstruction.

I don't know who will still be looking at this thread but I wanted to add this for anyone who may have the same problem. I replaced the k&n air filter with a stock one and problem is now gone. The K&N was pretty clean but what I did notice is the "pleets" to the k&n wer facing down towards the throttle bodies and the stock filter is flush on the TB side (bottom) and the pleets to the filter are facing up...?? Could not have been installed incorrect it only goes in one way.

I have seen many stalling threads on here - this went away with installing a stock filter thats the only thing I changed and I have been riding it for a few weeks now and it has not stalled once - thanks for all the help and enjoy the riding season safely!
