    hello fellow viffer riders!

yesterday morning i drove to the indianapolis airport, and after 2 plane rides and a train ride, arrived in northern atlanta to pick up my 1998 vfr. i rode 600 miles home to central illinois, and i must say that i love this bike!

the bike has a corbin seat, risers, (i think) some sort of aftermarket windscreen, 2bros slip-on and a power commander.

my other bike is a 1989 hawk gt that, now with a dedicated street bike in the stable, will be converted to track-only use.

here they are, sleeping together in the garage ;)

2 great choices in bikes! I've often thought about a Hawk GT but for the moment I'm limited to a single bike....

Anyway, you'll like this group of folks, and you'll learn a ton about your new VFR.

Cool Marty - another '98 5th gen. Quite a few around here and modoholics. I resemble that remark.

    Welcome!

i probably won't do much modding to the vfr - the hawk is my money pit!

that being said, i am probably going to try to shim the rear up and maybe lower the front a little. i don't like how slow the steering feels in comparison to the hawk.

    Welcome.

A 5th Gen VFR & a Hawk GT. That sounds like a good combo to me.

Please don't turn the Hawk into a race bike. They are collectors items with un-molested ones going for nearly $4000 & they cost $4000 new. If you adjust for inflation, that's pretty much a 200% increase in value. A Hawk that's been turned into a racebike loses it's value instantly. You will only be able to sell it to someone that is specifically looking for a Hawk track bike. Now that Suzuki & Ducati make 650CC twins, the Hawks are no longer competitive on the track either. Just keep it as close to stock as possible & enjoy owning a piece of history.

If you need a track bike, get a used SV650. Parts are cheaper & easier to come by.

    KC-10 FE out...

don't kid yourself - my hawk is in nowhere near 'good' condition, and it would cost more than it is worth to get it there.

we don't put vfr swingers in our bikes... we will take the rear wheel and modify our spindles to take the wheel. a stock hawk wheel can only fit a 150 or 160 tire, and there aren't a lot of GOOD tires available in that size. also the front wheel can only fit a 110.

so we take a cbr600 f2 front (at the cheap end of the spectrum) and a vfr rear, so that we can use the more common 120/180 sizes.

Ah I see I did not realize they took such a small tire.
