Front Brakes

Looking for help on 98' front brakes. Just had the frt wheel off to install a new tire and checked pads for wear. Re-installed wheel etc., and I now notice that the left caliper is not centered on the rotor. The rotor sets in the caliper nearly touching the outboard side looking in from the front. The right side caliper is centered perfectly. Any thoughts on what to look for so I can repair this problem. Of course I took it all apart thinking I may have not installed things properly and carefully watched as I reinstalled the wheel again. It definately is the caliper as I noticed the rotor sets to the left side as I installed it. This with the pads not yet reset with line pressure. Just so you know, the wheel is on with correct rotation. Spacers back as they should be on the correct sides, all steps followed and bolts torqued per spec.

Thanks for any input you have.

You may have already done this, but take the caliper back off and make sure the pads are aligned correctly when put into the caliper. Make sure the little metal bracket at the ends of each caliper are aligned properly. It really should be pretty easy, but when I started to reinstall my rear caliper last week after installing new pads, I had this problem. The above was my problem. Hope it helps.

I believe I know exactly what the problem is.

Make sure that the forks are correctly spaced on the front axle shaft...make sure that you have the correct spacers on the correct side as well....the left side fork leg (as you are sitting on the bike) should be lining up with the mark on the axle shaft....otherwise this can cause the disc to drag on the caliper. I did this by accident when I put the front wheel back on the first time....I had it misaligned (forks misspaced) on the axle shaft...

Just an idea to look at.

WELL JESUS! What are you doing Raisin?? I just saw that this thread is 5 years old! :loco:

Jason, I was just about to respond earlier and saw the date. I guess he must have figured it out. Good call on the spacers though.
