I know the feeling. After my first laydown wearing leather, I actually remember thinking, "hmm, this isn;t too bad. I'll be just fine." while I was sliding along under the bike. Before that, I frequently would find myself riding a little tense...

Just don't get over-confident. Ride aware. The suit allowed you to redirect some of your $10 total worth of attention from worrying about crashing - to being smooth. Which then allowed you to go faster.

Glad it makes riding more enjoyable!!!

At legal speeds, textile will survive at least one one get-off and is definitely more comfortable than a full leather suit.

I have a textile jacket and I wear a set of AGV leather pants... I'm thinking about going all leather for Spring and Fall months that mate with the 360 degree zipper on my current pants for full "Black Power Ranger" look... My Textile jacket is nice thogh in the summer and gas armor in it and breaths really well but I would never do a track day in it....

The whole rain might ruin mylether issue is really a non-issue go to target or wal-mart and buy a sized 2XL of Rain gear 40 20 bucks... I cut the hood off and I keep it in my tank bag if there is any question it will rain...

When I first got my Leather pants (Used to only wear Jeans) I had the same reaction KC had... However last november I had a bit of a scare with almost going down in a late november ride... Brought me back to reallity real quick...

I really need to buy some boots though... Black work steel toe boots just look goofy with the leather pants now especialy wehn white sock shows on occasion....

 As I once said here before we got class. White socks. My brother and I in the 70's wore brown tuxes and white socks at his wedding and people took pix HAHAHA.

Getting back to the topic, I have three Joe Rocket two pieces. Textile for winter, Leather for fall and spring and a perforated leather for the summer. Now I know our summers out here on the Wet Coast are not as hot as many places down there but it does get warm. Personally I don't find the perforated leather too hot at all so long as you are moving. Under Armour makes a Hot Weather Gear tight top which does an amazing job of cooling you off. A very wise addition to your wardrobe.

:panda: I think I vote for a textile jacket and pants, like Joe Rocket for commuting.
Leathers are nice but you have to spend at least $1,000 for suit. Really good suits, such as RS Taichi, Kushitani, Nankai, Dainese will cost $2,000 and more. If I am going to spend that kind money for a suit, it must be well fitted to my body. That means the suit has to be tightly fitted. I think such suit is very inconvinient for commuting purposes. A textile jacket like Joe Rocket is much warmer than any of leather jacket and very adequate without any extra rain jacket even if it started raining while on a freeway.
Mine was from eBay and I paid $65 plus very reasonable postage. Seller ?ypsie2112 lists many J Rocket clothings as used in excellent condition, however, mine did not have any sign of use.

im firmly in the Textile camp, although i do posess a Alpine stars leather jacket for sport rides, my Spidi textile jacket and trou are veterans of many campaigns. There is no comparison between the 2 in the wet, spidi is Goretex
and has the H2o out weave which has superior drying abilities which i have fully tested and can confirm. features like internal back, shoulder and elbow armour( all removeable),cellphone pockets, cinching straps in the forearms, lots of domed adjusting points, vents, internal liners and best of all light wieght with excellent comfort. i wouldnt be without mine.
try and work towards one of each, so that you have the option to choose whats best for the situ.

If I only had one set of gear it would be leather.

well, it's been almost a year since I posted to this thread and I am still wearing leather almost exclusively for commuting and any other riding. For the track I have a one piece suit and for going to work, I wear leather pants and jacket. They don't zip together but both are armoroed and made specifically for motorcycling. If my commute was any further (it's about 20 miles) I might consider textile but probably not. When I recently rode 600 miles Is till wore the pants/jacket combo as I did when SLOVFR and I rode 3000 miles one week. I think I just feel better wearing the leather, plus I get to look like Mad Max!

Oh, and as far as effeciency goes, I have had two minor spills in the same leather jacket and it is hardly any worse for wear. Try reusing textile after a couple slides, I don't think it'll hold up. so even though initial cost was much higher for the jacket, it is evening out. Why one or two more wrecks and it'll be dead even! :ninja:

    Well true but...

Had a slide in '04 which my quality Cordura Gortex Tiger Angel Element protected me in the slide but was a throw away afterwards in contrast was wearing quality Touring TA Leather pants and these held up perfectly and still in good use....

After replacing the Jacket with Leather soon found it was less flexable than the Cordura Gortex so ended up buying a Tiger Angel Element again thinking it did a good job in the crash so buying a replacement for its convenience well worth it. Gortex in anything is brilliant and with the Jacket it means not only is it 100% waterproof so no messing with inner or outer waterproofs it also breaths so when moving comfortable enough to wear even on Hot 100f Summers days although usually on the hottest days in combination with Draggin jeans.

Its always good to have options...

Now use the Leather Jacket and Jants for Fall / Winter / Spring all day Group rides where rain is not forecast and the Cordura Gortex Jacket with either Leather or Draggin pants for Summer, Commuting and Touring.

For information on the Tiger Angel Element Jacket Specifications note these advantages would hold true for any quality Condura Gortex Jackets eg Dainese, Sidi etc:
