I just bought my 2nd 2001 VFR. The digital fuel gauge does not go lower than half a tank. After I ran out of gas...ughhh...I filled up the tank and it only took about 4.8 gallons. I should have had some gas left over to get to the station. Suggestions?

    Thanks, Todd

that is an unusual problem... If you are up to it, you could pull the tank off and see if the lever is sticking on the floating mechanism for the fuel level. It would be the first time I have heard of it happening, though... So the bars light up all the way to full but stop going off at one half tank, is that correct?

Yes, the bars go down until one before the half-way mark and then stop. I was really surprised that the gas ran out and I filled it to the top with 4.7 or so gallons too. I should have had more left. It has not been ridden long in awhile so I will hope it will correct itself before I take it in. Thanks.

Sounds like a bad fuel lever sending unit. it is just a potentiometer with a float on it. You can measure it with an ohmmeter once you pull it out. It should change resistance the full range of the lever, if not you have a bad sender. This can be caused by gas being left in the tank too long, or a contaminent in the tank.
