    Hi,

I'm a new member and this seems like a cool forum. I'm about to take the MSF course to get my license and I was hoping if any of you guys can suggest a bike ?

I know this question is asked alot but I want opinions. Is the vfr800 too much to handle for a first bike?

Basically, I'll be using the bike to go to work (both highway and freeway) and some weekend trips around town with co-workers. I originally thought about a ninja 250 but I think that is too small. The other bike I'm thinking is a used honda cbr f4i. Honestly, styling matters for me too.

Thanks, hope to hear good stuff from ya!

Welcome gundamzer02000. Glad your taking the course, thats a good sign.

That question will fuel many different responses and thoughts. I say as long as you have respect for your bike and are well aware of what it can do, you "may" be ok. Personally, the size of the 6th gen is perfect for me, heavier than I would like but I am a big boy so it's not that hard to handle. If I was playing with a bike that didn't fit me my learning curve would be worse IMO.

    Cheers

I bought my first bike in July 06 to commute much like you. 50 miles each way combined freeway and city. Never rode before. Bought a brand new 06 VFR still in the crate. Took the course (best thing a person could do). I've put 50,000km. (31,000 mi.) on it since and have without a doubt, never looked back. In hindsight, I would not do anything different. I was told by the salesman that a smaller engine bike may not hold up given the type of riding I was going to do. Almost 2 years later, I am convinced I bought the right bike.

BTW, you didn't say where you were from. FYI if there is no snow, I ride and the bike does very well.

Enjoy the bike, Enjoy the site.

welcome to the site, everyone here is pretty cool. as far as the size of the bike thing goes, i personally feel, these are not beginner bikes( that will create controversy). with that being said if you take the course and learn to respect the bike and its power you will probably be alright. you need to realize however how easily it is to turn that throttle and haul ass. that is a temptation that needs to be put to the side until you feel comfortable and get so experience. trust me i found out the hard way. its really going to come down to common sense and self restraint. as for the bike itself the vfr's are great bikes and somewhat forgiving. they are heavier than cbr's but i personally like it. hope that helps. good luck@you msf course.
also where are from it doesnt say on your profile?

Cool, I'm from Las Vegas, NV and there's alot places to ride and cruise around here. Co-workers have been constantly been trying to get me to ride since I'm one of a few at work who don't have a bike yet.

I've definitely been looking online at used VFR's and CBR's. As much as I can, I want to stay with a honda brand and not go for a gixxer.

Thanks guys for your responses, appreciate it. I decided I won't go for a ninja 250 anymore just because I need a bike for commuting on both highway and local roads.

But I'll keep searching for a bike and hopefully I'll decide on one.
