...yes, there are a few threads on this. It goes without saying for me...I always wear ear protection. Every little bit of me is valuable...I protect all the bits and pieces and all the senses!

And Smalls408: I like Sidi. Great quality. Great protection for the footsies!

Helmets are important I landed face first into the ground at 55 MPH with a Nolan n100e and the helmet not only saved my face but did not fail structurally even after having over an 1/8 of an inch scrapped off the chin guard.

Sorry to hijack this thread, but I'm kind of a bind related to some high quality protective gear that just doesn’t fit right -

Is anyone interest in a brand new 2 Piece Vanson Leather suite? Long story, but I custom ordered them back in January, but something happened at Vanson's main tannery, so they had a shortage of leather. As soon as I mentioned I wanted to cancel the order, they said the jacket was done and they'll give me the last pair or pants off the rack for 1/2 off.

I think I lost a little weight, and the pants are about 2" too long (which was what the custom alterations were supposed to be) and the fit just isn’t right. I got a really good deal on these because I know Mike Vanson and they gave me free armor, gloves, and the 1/2 off thing.

Jacket is a 50 US (with custom added Scotchlight piping on the back) and pants are XXL Perforated SportRider (but really about a 38-40" waist and maybe a 32-34 inseam). Pics are stolen from the site - but I got the 1/2 perforated version of the pants - perforated above the knees in the front and below the knee in the back. Comes with shoulder, elbow, spine (with the hard plastic scales), knee and hip pads.

Great deal here - good price, no wait, no tax and you get to actually try everything on before you buy. Vanson will not be making anything new with perforated leather for at least another few months until they source and approve of a new Tannery.

Never been ridden in, only worn around the house for a few hours to start the break in process. I'll throw in the free gloves they gave me too and all the receipts + unfilled out warrantee cards. Cost with tax was right around $1,000 (would have been around $1,300 if they actually made the custom pants) and I'm just looking to get back most of what I spent. I’ll say asking $900 obo.

Everyone is welcome to come try them on, have a beer and listen to a record at my Apartment in San Francisco any time!

    Let me know,
    Dana

Full face helmet, textile armoured jacket, joe rocket armoured pants over my jeans ( need to get some armoured jeans ), foam ear plugs, gloves, and boots.

In the summer I pull the lining from the jacket and ride with it partly open (though I had some kind of nasty bug get under my shirt and leave with three bites!).

Gotta get better riding jeans, boots and gloves for sure though.

Here's one for you guys. I'm riding around in the car with my brother who is visiting and showing him around SLO. We see a guy running around town a couple different times on his bike. He is wearing a full face helmet, mesh style riding jacket and gloves, shorts and sandals. Hmm, I think to myself. I mean, come on. Either wear the gear or don't. What the hell. The best part, guess what kind of bike...you got it 6g VFR. I didn't get a chance to talk to him, but if I had seen him stop, I would have pulled up invited him to the site, and said, "Dude, aren't you worried about skin grafts to your legs if you go down?"

Does anyone own a pair of Sidi B-2's? If so how is the air flow?

I ride with an Icon Motorhead jacket, heavy duty jeans, Alpinestar boots & gloves and a fullface Icon Hooligan helmet. It's better to sweat than bleed.

I'm actually a tad upset. Yesterday, whilst filling up at the local rip off joint, I mean gas station, the nozzle started leaking & ruined my Alpinestars leather gloves. I had to ride home 2.5 miles with all the fingers on my left hand burning from the gas. I've washed them 5 times & I still see oil floating up in the sink when I'm done.

This mishap also necessitated a full wash & detail since an untold amount of fuel ran down the side of the bike.

I loved those gloves & will replace them with the exact same thing. These gloves are so comfortable that there really isn't any good reason to use textile gloves. I've worn them up to 95f & never found them to be hot. I would recommend them to anyone.

    Nozzle is pissed

I did not intentionally urinate on KC's hand, but he held out right as the stream started and I farted as I tried to cut off the stream. Don't come looking when I say,"there's a snake over here" and this will not happen to you.

I am, of course joking. I would not have tried to cut off the stream.

I grew up in NM. I remember riding my VFR 500, at the ripe old age of 16 years, out on the west mesa area of Albuquerque and getting caught in a massive wind/sand storm. Those of you familiar with the area know what I'm talking about. Oh yeah and I was wearing a tank top, shorts, flip flops and a full face helmet (Hey I at least paid attention to one thing in the MSF course  ). I guess I'm a reformed/rehabilitated squid.

Well as you can guess the skin on my legs felt and looked as if it were sand blasted from my body. It was a lesson learned. I live in TX now and it is damn hot, but I will be covered in gear from head to toe. The mesh armored jacket I have for hot weather is a really good piece of equipment. If you dont have one, I recommend it. Its not as good as leather, but its better than the alternative.

Anyone who doesn't subscribe to ATGATT should read that story!!

I always ride with my Arai helmet, Cortech jacket, Sidi boots, and Joe Rocket gloves. I must admit that I wear jeans though but have been contemplating getting riding pants. This thought has been reinforced after reading the story

I need to get some new gloves and can across this thread when doing a serach on gauntlet versus non-gauntlet style gloves. What are the thoughts out there? Gauntlet gloves only for racing and track days or street use too?

I vote for guantlet-style gloves all the time to protect the wrists...there are lots of sensitive bits there and I feel the protection is wise to have.
In this blasted heat here (109 yesterday) I am realizing I have to go to my mesh gear and leave the leather in the closet...I just wish the mesh was a bit better IF I should go down...the KTM mesh jacket is very good I think but I think my mesh pants are just "ok." But WAAAY better than jeans...(Don't get me started on jeans again!)

Thanks to my $20 Alpinestars knee armor and Sidi Strada Evo Air boots. I don't have a broken leg right now!! I don't have a bike anymore, but at least I walked away from the crash. ATGATT

My current gear includes a Shoei RF-1000, ear plugs, Olympia MotoSports Airglide II jacket and pants (I sized them to wear as overpants), Fieldsheer Bullet gloves, Alpinestars Effex Goretex boots, and a recently added Teknic Supervent mesh jacket. I have a pair of BMW Venting Machine pants on the way. The Olympia gear is great but once the temps rise into the 80s it gets a bit warm for me even with the liners out. I'm confident I can use it with the liners in even when temps are in the low 40s. The Teknic jacket flows much more air (although you can feel the difference in protection) and was a bargain on closeout from newenough ($65, get one while they last). I sometimes opt to wear a pair of 5.11 tactical boots instead of the Alpinestars when I commute. I know this is a mistake and I'm working on finding a pair of boots that fit me better (I've owned serveral and just can't find the right ones).

We need to start a thread to let everyone give feedback on gear they use. I don't know about everyone else but I have to mail order everything so I rely heavily on the opinon of others for things like fit, feel, etc.
