Well, I just went down. One day they will outlaw cell phones while driving. The good news is! I was of course 10 minutes into my ride, going less than 30 mph, less than three miles from my house, wife not with me, (should I call and tell her?), riding with other bikers and most of all all the saftey gear did its job. Helmet protected my head, jacket protected my elbows, arms and shoulders (but the jacket is ruined though) and the boots protected my feet (those are ruined too). **Note to self, buy riding jeans or leathers.** The bad news is 10 min into my ride, I didn't get to choke the living shit out of that BI^&*.

I'd like to thank that other biker who was following me. He helped my stay calm, cool and upright my bike. It's always nice to have someone see what you're seeing cause God knows either things speed up or move painfully slow.

The bike was ridable home. Messed up the fairings though. ** Note to self, buy frame sliders.** These was a guys talking about them earlier and He's 100% correct, DO NOT GET THE SLIDERS THAT MOUNT TO THE RADIATOR, better to replace some plastic and ride home than to waist a radiator, have to get a truck and spend more $ replacing the radiator. Common sense prevails.

Will this deter me from ride? It's kind of like the shirt says, You don't stop riding cause you're old, You get old cause you stop riding. But we'll see what the wife says?! LOL.

Glad you are ok Gryphon! I've had many close calls in my car because people don't pay attention, luckily none on the bike so far.

Hopefully your wife isn't to hard on you, especially since it wasn't your fault anyways!

    What sliders are most recommended?

Last Sunday, while riding 2-up with a lady friend (5' 7", 116 lbs.), after riding 150 miles in SE Ohio with no problems, we entered a slow 90 degree, left turn along Ohio Rt. 669 in Malta, OH, and as I leaned the bike into this turn (going no more than maybe 10mph), the back tire suddenly lost traction, slid out, and down we went. (We were both wearing full gear from head-to-toe, and neither of us were injured, but both our left pant legs and left boots were pretty well chewed up. They did their job.)

My 2007 VFR800A had only 850 miles on the odometer (Metzeler Z4 tires, properly inflated and scrubbed in), so it was a real bummer to lay down such a new bike. The left fairing is really scratched and scuffed, but the bike was otherwise OK after the accident.

It turned out that nearly 400 firefighters and paramedics were gathered at Malta last weekend for a training exercise, and 2 medic trucks with crews just happened to be parked about 50' east of where we went down. They immediately came to our aid, and after they made sure we were not injured, they good-naturedly said that we couldn't have picked a better place and time to go down, since help was so abundant.

The two medics in the lead truck said that they were watching us as we came into the tight right-angle curve, and that I appeared to be riding very well, but then the rear tire appeared to suddenly lose traction and slip out. The road surface where we went down was not gravely or greasy with oil, but they suspected that it may well have been slick due to a thin film of a substance such as antifreeze.

At any rate, a very pleasant police officer soon arrived on the scene, and after assessing the scene he too suspected an unforeseen road hazard, so I was not cited for failure to control. My lady friend and I were a bit shaken, but we regained our composure and were able to ride the bike back home without any further problems.

I'm now very interested in "Sliders", but I know nothing about them other than what I've learned at this link: http://www.gekgo.com/motorcycles/37220.php My question to the forum is this: Which type and brand of sliders are most effective, structurally sound, and most recommended for a 2007 VFR?

Also, I have ongoing concerns about the 2007 VFR800A's stock suspension. I adjusted the front and rear setting before this 2-up ride. The rear suspension adjustments seem rather logical, while adjusting the front settings is very nebulous and confusing to me. Any help would be much appreciated.

    Thank you!

I only had 226 on my 2006 when I slid down on 4/6. I had full coverage, so it's still at the dealer getting new fairings and a few other pieces (stands, bar end, etc). Unfortunately it'll be ready to ride before I will because as the bike left the pavement, something on it hit my left foot just right to dislocate my big toes and crush all the other toes. I have pins in everything but my big toe that'll hopefully come out in a little over 1 week. With any luck I'll be back on the bike in early June.

And yes I had full gear. The slider on my left boot was ground down flat with a hole on the other side about where the bone from my dislocated toes was sticking out of my foot. My knee armor on my Olympia textile overpants looked melted all the way down to my jeans. The riding boots probably prevented ankle damage and I have not doubt that without the armor in the knee, it would have ground my knee down to the bone too. Helmet, jacket, and gloves didn't get a scratch.

    Glad both are OK

It has been warm all week mid 80's, the streets were clean and all but the BI*&^ that was in front of me??!! I should have seen it coming. I was about 30 feet behind her going 30 mph. I hadn't even shifted out of 2nd gear. I seen her pick up her phone place it to the left side of her face about 10 sec later she applied her left turn signal, i moved to the right. I was not about 20 feet behind her and she made this abrupt turn to the right right in front of me. I looked up the brakes, skidded about 8 feet and the bike went down. The Gold Wing that was behind me missed me and stopped, she made her turn and keep going. (I'm a FLE (Federal Law Enforcement Officer) and after getting up I was about to draw my weapon and put two in the back of her car, but the guy I was with had this panicked look on his face. I think he was just as surprised as I was about going down.

But I was able to get home, say a few prayers, and reflect about the whole thing. I just wish I could have gotten that BI^&* license plate. But in the eyes of the law she wouldn't have been sited for anything. It's not against the law to use your cellphone while driving.

    Glad to hear you're ok!
Any chance she saw you go down and just kept going?

I think cell phones should be banned while driving.. Even the hands free ones.
I've seen too many people do stupid stuff in traffic while having that glazed over look on their face while talking on a cell phone.

Good to hear you are OK for the most part. Boots and Jacket are worth ruining. You are what matters. Now your wife knows how important your gear is. My guess is that she will let you back out but only after you get new gear.

I live in a congested area and the cell phone non-payin attention while dirvin fools always want to run you over. Need to outlaw stupidity, then cell phones, then the busted drivers.

Sorry to hear about your accident. Good thing I wasn't on a bike behind you because I would've taken your gun and put two in her car for you. just kidding. Glad you're ok. On a side note. Had the same thing happen to me about 6 months ago. Fortunately, I stopped in time. Not sure I wouldn't have been in your situation without my ABS. Can't say enough good stuff about ABS. It's saved me twice now. Good luck
