What does the temp gauge say? My first thought is that the bike is too warm for the cooling fan to shut off... But on another note...could be a bad relay maybe? Anybody with more experience have a better idea?

What year/model bike do you have? EDIT:nevermind 86 vf500...the Title says all...

Not a temperature problem. The fan is on constantly, even from start up. Could be a relay, if I could find that. Anyone else have an idea..

    thanks

I'd unplug the sending unit at the bottom of the radiator to see if that makes it stop. If it does, I'd say the sending unit is bad. BTW, Don't ride with it unplugged!!!

I did unplug a switch on connector to the left (sitting on the bike) just below the front of the gas tank. It shuts off. When plugged back in it goes again..

I will look for the sending unit, where do I find it??? Waiting for manual to arrive!!!

    Thanks

this is the fan temp switch that you unplugged. there is no relay and it is the "sending unit". when the rad gets hot it closes the switch turning the fan on, whe the temp drops it opens the switch and the fan stops. your switch is broken and stuck in the closed (on) position- not bad considering how old the bike is. buy a new switch, and while your at it, do a radiator flush. it's the beginning of summer, you'll thank your self for it later.

Well I just came back in from checking it out. It was the fan switch. I tapped it and amazingly the fan shut off... Buying new switch this week. Well I was at it I did do a radiator flush.

This is my second year with the bike.
So I am changing tires, chain, oil, and air filter, new plugs. Front brake pads because of a leaky fork seal that is getting repaired.

Hopefully all of ths done in the next two weeks and I'lll be good for a few years...

    39,286km.. Lots left in her...

Next year, carbs cleaned and set...

My sons gets it at 16 and I get a new bike, maybe a yamaha or honda sport touring.

    Thanks for all your help.

    I love this place!!!!

you can ignore the high Honda price for the switch by going to NAPA and using Eichlin switch #FS 130.....much cheaper
