Hey I'm new to this forum and just had a couple of questions about buying project bikes. I'm picking up a 1st generation vfr 700 for $150 as my first
project bike. Everything looks good especially for the price, my only question is what do I do about titling? The guy has a title for the bike, but in VA I'm pretty sure you can't have a vehicle in your name without it being insured. Seeing as it's a project bike, there really is no point in insuring it until it is ridable. Should I just hold off on transferring it into my name? Anybody got any suggestions? Any common problems I should expect to run into while working on this project? My intention is to use this as more of a learning tool. I'm pretty mechanically inclined and have done work on my Suzuki GS500F so I hope to get some more knowledge of working on bikes in general from this. Thanks for any info!

    Welcome to the site.

Go ahead and update your profile so your year/make/model show up under your name.

Read through these forums and do searches on topics if necessary. You will find lots of info. The 700 is a good bike. Fairly easy to work on and parts are available. Have fun restoring!

Not sure about your title laws, I'm in CA.

In Idaho there are penalties if you don't transfer the title in like 2 weeks

but just because you transfer it to your name, doesn't mean that it's insured, or licensed (again, this is Idaho info) but I would bet it's similar enough

    as for parts....

I've got an 87 700f2 that I'm parting out (that reminds me...gotta go take some pics of the seat for a couple guys....)

    they are available!

good luck, welcome to the world of vfr's they are awesome!

In KS you must have insurance to title a vehicle, and you have like 90 days to re-title the bike without penalties, after that there are some penalties that go along with the titling process...
