I use my vfr mostly on the highway like a lot of others. I say about 180-195 till red flasher. I think about 38-43 is it. With gas hitting $4.00 I wish I kept my Burgman 400. I hit 60-68 all day on the highways. I just couldn't pass when everyone was going 90 mph.

The Burgy was too much for around town only so the VFR came home and the Burgy went bye bye.

I thought the power commander would improve the gas milage. Am I wrong?

My bike is stock, and just has the service done on 39K two weeks ago. But the mpg seem to get worse. After the servise the bike respond so well, She glide like a rocket. Thanks for the suggestion, I really appreciated.:usa2:

Generally speaking, a PCIII will richen the fuel delivery with the VFR. But I'm sure you could customize the map and go the other way and just lean everything out even further, probably to the determent of rideability, however.

Enthusiast riding has seen a worst-case of 36, and the best has been 48 at about 70-80MPH highway.

Last season my bike was completely stock and I averaged 36mpg. I have a PC111 now and I expect it to go down. I noticed my mileage was a little better in the Fall than in the Summer. Figuring the air temp had something to do with it plus less tourists so less traffic.

yes I sold VStrom (50mpg) for VFR than lovely's Burgman for a Piaggio... but I remember the Burgman; it was a blast to run errands around town and it held it's own on the freeway... my Shadow600 doas give me about 55mpg and VFR aroudn 38-42 with the same riding conditions (90% freeway)

I get between 37 and 41 MPG. My riding style is slightly aggressive. I cruse about 80MPH on the HWY around 5500RPM and higher RPMs when hitting the curves. I hit VTEC while climbing the gears and most of the time through twisties.
I use mobile 1 full syn oil, fuel stabilizer in winter and run 87 octane. I sometimes run 93 octane but noticed engine temps running higher in the summer heat with 93.

While even some cars get better mileage, I think I have more fun getting to work.

Got 45+ this past Sunday wringing it out pretty good all day. I wasn't exactly riding it like I stole it but I was 15 to 20 over the speed limit most of the day and 99.9% of what we rode were twistys. Not sweeping rolling roads but the tighter variety. I'm telling you guys it's all about smooth. That's where the mileage is!

My last MPG was prior to putting in a K&N air filter and upping my avg RPM's. I now try to keep RPM's between 5500-6500 (before 4500 -5500) and after 4 tanks with K&N filter, I'm getting better mileage. last tank was 44. Not sure if the air filter is helping more or the higher RPMS (engine not working as hard as with lower rpms).

Wow. i only get like 34 mpg or so. I like to accelerate hard, but on the highway I cruise in 6th nice and easy. I think I must still have the PCIII cranked up a bit much...

    Thanks for assembling all this!

04 vfr, with 31,500 miles. Bike used 85% freeway commuting, 10% in town, 5% occasional backroad cruise. Very little use of v-tec. Average tank 40-43 mpg. Occasional weekend trip, all freeway, 42-45 mpg. Stock bike gearing with K&N filter and gutted stock cans. Almost time for the major 32k service, so be interesting to see what happens.

06 Stock w/10,000miles -50% commute, 50% hilly swithchbacks avg around 38 right now, but last summer was averaging between 41-45. I think I'm still getting crappy gas, but I may be checking a few things if it doesnt start getting better. Great post, extremely smurfin helpful. Thanks.

I'm surprised that my mileage is still one of the low ones on JS 's list.
thats all i get i don't think its that unusual after a 340 mile ride with several other bikes we all were very close to the same dollar amount when we filled up some of the 600 burned slightly more which was surprising considering we all rode close to the same pace.

You still around 33 there chomp? I'm waiting to list mine until I get a couple more tanks monitored. FWIW I was 31 last tank but that was mostly city, lots of revs and lots of stop and goes. Looks like this next tank is shaping up to be better.

    Are your calculations right?
