    SLO,

I went to Pacific Dream Machines in Half Moon Bay today, and there were a number of cool planes, there, including a no. of warbirds.

When's the last time you saw a YAK 9 up close and personal? This puppy makes a modest 1400 horsepower!

It helps to read Cyrillic to use the YAK's cockpit...

No warbird event is complete w/o P-51s....there were several...

More YAKs than you could shake a stick at...or is that more sticks than you can shake a YAK at????

Where's Pappy Boyington when you need him?

    Mustang prop....

    I went for a ride in a T6...it was a blast...

    The coast from the T6...

It was a beautiful day to be out flying...

What an awesome thing to go do! Sure looks like you couldn't have picked a better day to do it as well.

By the way, welcome to 2008

Nice! I saw an ad for that when I was in NorCal on Friday, but it never registered in the brain... Couldn't have asked for better weather...

Hope it's like this for the Red Bull Air Race next weekend in SD!

I'm sooooooooooooooooooo jealous of you right now...it's not even funny. It's my dream to own and operate a restored warbird.....(i'm young, it will happen) I'd give my left n** for one in a heart beat. I'm not even picky..P51, P38, P40...i'm kind of partial to the p51 though :p

It is also a dream of mine to own a warbird. A P-51 would just be freaking awesome. Problem is they never made a 2 seat P-51 so I doubt I'll ever get a chance to fly one.

    I'm curious as to this?

Boyington & VMF-214 (the Black Sheep Squadron for those who don't know) flew the Vought F-4U Corsair & battled against Japanese A6M Zero, Nakajima KI-43 Hayabusa & various Japanese torpedoe bombers.

I'm a stickler for military history.

How much did your ride cost? They want $300 for 15 minutes in NJ.

    KC-10 FE out...

Sweet, thanks for the pics. Saturday was an awsome day to fly. Made four round trips to reno, myself. came back the back way and picked pinecones with my buttcheeks through the Sierras. Some day I'll take a camera along...

I want to go to the Red Bull Air Races but they never come to an area around me. They were in Abu Dhabi the last time I was deployed but the base leadership wouldn't let us go. I was soooo pissed.

KC, my mistake, I thought he flew P40s....should have referenced Chennault instead (sic?)

    Ride was $195

Camera doesn't have a bug, I have a preset in Lightroom to do a date stamp on export...will have to fix that.

KC and Puma are both right, "Pappy" flew the Curtis P-40 Warhawk with the American Volunteer Group - the Flying Tigers (shark mouth'd olive drab plane in Puma's photos) He broke his contract with the Chinese government and got a Marine commission eventually becoming the Commanding officer of the Marine's VMF-214 where he flew the gull-wing F4U Corsair. He was awarded the Medal of Honor. Dude may have been a VFR rider... read more here:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pappy_Boyington

Claire Chennault with the CO of the AVG. I must have read a book about the Flying Tigers ten times in elementary school. The men that volenteered to help the Chinese seemed like the story of the 300 to me as a ten year old. How they flew that outdated underpowered overweight P-40 against the Mitsubishi Zero is still amazing when you look at the performance numbers.... but then the VFR is kinda like that P-40 compared to the 600cc sportbikes.

When's the last time you saw a YAK, a P51 and a T28B all lined up next to each other?

    YAK, YAK, YAK...

The T28 taxis up for his run-up. The climbing ability of this plane was quite impressive.

Probably the only warbird I could afford. Been thinking of getting one of these for a time-builder actually.

Cool! You should do it. I've seen those before.

I need to get down there and ride with you and Reg and Tori, and maybe go flyin' with ya. My buddy Geoff has a Grumman Tiger....he used to ride with me when he had an '01 VFR (back when I only had my F4i). I go flying with him whenever I get a chance. The last day we flew was when we rode in the Twin Star.

Need to get my hands on a Twinstar. Been flying the bigger Cirrus's a lot lately. They're the closest thing to flying a turbine without the jet fuel.

I'm sure there's going to be a few more parties, errrr rides, at Reggie's this summer. You won't see much of me bringing up the kaboos, but I catch up eventually. Might have full use of my shoulder by the end of summer.
