Anybody have a line on where I can get the oil filter removal wrench for a 6th gen other than dealer. Its really just a cap that connects to a socket and is used to remove or put on filter. I found ones for Goldwings on EBay but dont know if they are the same diameter. I changed my oil first time without it and man what a pain in the A** to get the filter off as the factory had it som tight.

Get this and thank me later. Works on multiple oil filter sizes. You can get these at Autozone, etc... Only about $7-8 and worth every penny. Slightly a tight fit on the VFR, but definitely works.

One thing worth mentioning is that you cant use it to torque the new filter. Most folks do that by hand (since filter doesn't require a ton of torque). I don't even know if you could fit a torque wrench on there w/ the limited space. Oh, and another thing: there is a similar type which has 3 arms on it...don't get that kind.

Take a filter to an auto store like pep boys and see which one of the cap type fits.
If you can, get a strap wrench as well.
Last time I changed the oil, the cap type kept slipping so I had to use the strap one.

What's up dude? Go to Auto Zone - they have a good selection of cap style filter wrenches. I must have 3 of them for the stuff I've done.

Now that you have it off you probably won't have a problem unless you let the dealer do it again. I bought one at Kragen I think but I don't think I have used it except once. I just hand tighten it and then I use a rag when I get ready to take it off, it helps me grip it...

20 foot lbs as per the manual, thats just crazy! I think it used to be 7 foot lbs but for some reason it went up.

I'm with reg, hand tight is just fine.

Whenever that happens when I change oil filters on all the trucks I service. They get pretty tight, I just tighen the filter a little bit to break the lock, and then loose it. Works every time
For cap style filters remover, if it slip. Just wrap a rag around the filter end, and tap the cap into the filter with a hammer.

I agree with the Kragen solution. I bought one for about $5 and I works just fine. Take a new filter down to the store and fit it up. The strap wrenches are CRAP!!! The only thing the strap wrench did was crush the filter so badly I had to ram a screwdriver through it and twist the old filter off. The dealer may have listened to that 20lbs of torque BS!

I have this one as well & it works on the VFR & Hawk with no problems.

Another solution is to use a K&N 303 oil filter. It has the 1" nut on the end. That's about as easy as it gets.

    KC-10 FE out...

You won't be able to find a strap wrench to fit between the exhaust and the filter. I just did this yesterday, but that's another post...
