I actually preach to everyone I know and whoever else will listen, "neva, eva, buy a brand new vehicle of any kind." But if they come out with this fo real...I'm going straight to the stealership. Believe that. :)

2008 Honda VFR revealed in new motorcycle patent

    By Ben Purvis

Details of Honda’s 2008 VFR1000 have been revealed in a newly published motorcycle patent document – which shows the motorcycle to have a radical new frame design.

The Honda V-four sports tourer motorcycle, which gets a capacity boost to 1000cc for next year with an all-new engine, features a two-piece chassis, with separate front and rear sections. The engine itself provides the majority of the motorcycle's frame strength.

The front section of Honda motorcycle frame, incorporating the headstock, bolts to the engine in three places, but doesn’t connect directly to the swingarm pivot point. At the back of the motorcycle, there’s a separate aluminum casting which holds the swingarm, shock mounting and the seat subframe.

The patent also reveals that Honda hasn’t yet ditched the idea of a V-five engine, as one picture shows the same frame design with a five-cylinder motor bolted in place of the V-four.

See the full story in next week’s MCN, and see the full Honda motorcycle patent text and pictures here.

Hmmm, looks/shape wise it's just a CBR1000, which is kinda disappointing. The beauty of the VFR is that its a sports bike with tourer tendancies and all the perks that come with it. Based on the pics, would I buy it? Er, no. Would I buy a traditionally designed VFR with a 1000cc engine? Hell yes.

Well I saw that too and it doesn't really surprise me, like you said 1000rr looks, once Honda finds something they like they'll stay with it. This might just be the major over all Honda has been working on. I also notice a conventional swing arm. Boo Waa.. 1098 is looking mighty fine if this is the case.

I would hate to see them go to a conventional swingarm. I think that is what sets the VFR apart from all of the other Honda bikes.

Yeah, that sketch looks a bit much like the new CBR...in other words, ugly as hell. Granted it's just a sketch...still...that doesn't look promising...not one bit.

I agree, the new CBR is not a very pretty bike at all. Especially the ugly exhaust thing they have on there. However, it is suppose to be fast, lighter and better handling than anything out there right now. Ugly or not...fast sells! That's why a lot of strip clubs are still in business.

Well why would they make a vfr1000 that looks and has ergo's of a cdr1000...

the CFR needs to be distict enough to be seperate from the cbr...not just a cbr with 20 less hp and ne logo.

have some faith mainly because they won't make 2 identical bikes.

But the problem with the vfr is that it does not sell well.
I think if they added hard bags standard they would sell more. defines what it is at a glance.

I hear yah. I traded my 05 Hayabusa for my VFR and put My R1 forsale. Bought some beatle bags and still have a great time in the twisties or a long run. I like the quite pipes, and enjoy the different power delivery. to each their own.

Yes...if it was just like the current 6th gen, just a bit more displacment and power (and as extra sweetening, a bit less weight due to some hi-tech materials engineering) I would buy one. But, I wonder if it is worth going to "only" 1000cc's...why not 1100? Then you could offer the 781 and an 1100 at the same time.
    I know, I know, I am dreaming!

That's the day ride I was mentioning, must admit over a weekend throwing a coast ride down and Brown Mountain / Dalgety loop with it is better.

Well half with you, an extra 20Hp would be nice but its I that needs to loose those 20lbs...
