So after my first real ride on my new 90'vfr I was putting the bike in the garage and the clutch hose cracked and blew brake fluid all over the place. I bought a new hose from honda for $80 and put it back on. Originally i spent hours trying to bleed the hose with no luck. Eventually I created a vacum by squeezing the lever, closing the bleeder, releasing the clutch lever cracking the bleeder and repeating that over and over. Now i finally have fluid shooting out of the bleeder but no pressure to the lever. Also the clutch doesn't work. My next step is to pull the slave cylinder out and make sure everything is working and lined up correctly. Any one have any ideas? R*

"Burp" the banjo bolt at the MC. You have air trapped in the junction.

USE a C-clamp on the slave piston and fully retract it while bleeding.......

Thanks for the help. I'll try the banjo bolt tomorrow. My only fear is that i'll just suck more air into the line. Can I bleed the line with the slave cylinder off the bike? I guess if it's sealed that could work?

Don't worry about the slave cyl yet. Burping the banjo bolt should fix it.
Pull the clutch in, hold it in, loosen the banjo bolt, tighten the bolt, then release the lever, repeat. Then bleed at the slave cly, if necessary. Be SURE to keep fluid off the paint, or you'll start a new thread "How do I fix a ruined paint job?". Good Luck!!!

    UUUgghhh.

I had the same problem with the 93 I had. That bike was a bitch to bleed.

    Follow Eddies and Mason advice.

Thanks again. It was that damn banjo bolt. I had to squeeze the clutch in when i inserted the bolt and then bleed it. Took an hour to get it right but finally got it working.

I had the same problem just a couple of days ago. What is this - the VFR clutch flu going around?

Yup, must be the dreaded West Nile Clutch Virus I've been hearing about -

My slave piston popped out while waiting for my chain and sprocket to show up, and drained ALL the fluid out onto the floor this winter.

Mine took nearly an hour of squeezing the lever and burping before the clutch acted right...
