I still say the guy pulled his bike up to a retaining wall, put the front tire against the wall and dropped the clutch so that he didn't have to use the front brake and twist the throttle... that is too hard. He revs to rev limiter for a minute while his buddy's spill beer on their flip flops laughing at the s/w guy's smoke screen totally envelopes the bike and rider.

See this youtube for a demo of nozzle's theory:
exhibit a)Why you need to use a wall for the burnout.
exhibit b)Suck-Bang-Blow at Myrtle Beach, SC - this is an adjunct to BZ's thread.
Exhibit c)Dude shifts to speed ablation for rear tire so he can support tire manufacturers.
Exhibit f) It's not just the guys that are impaired...Squidette
    Exhibit d) Mr. Sandy Burnout

Im thinking you should leave a sticky on his bike. "Please replace your rear tire before you are roadkill, that thing will pop. No joke. Also, please take the MSF course, or donate your bike to Ben aka NeverlosT from VFRW".

I rode to school the other day (URI) and saw all the bikes parked together. I am going to check out the tires when I go today. I mean, I still have 1/8" on each side to go, but I am betting some of these big-dawgs have only used the middle 1".

I think if you have at least a 1/2 inch on each side I think you are at the very least trying to ride... I have about 1/4 inch after this last weekend and I was realy working hard...

I'm still getting used to the characteristics of the pilot powers I put on...

haha actually Keith Code as well as a few other pro instructors say that if you are riding right, even on the track having a tiny bit of chicken strip isnt bad at all. If you have none, you were damn close to ruin, which isnt to say that MotoGP guys arent ALWAYS damn close to ruin. Im no GP-er, but 1/8 inch strip is good enough for me on the road.

Then again, this is new england, there are sand-traps, potholes you could dissappear in, and moose :llama: . moose are everywhere:llama: . it is like a moose-farm up here. Half of us ride moose to work:whip: . The other half spend most of the commute waiting at "moose crossings":tsk: . The sheer volume of moose makes riding at more than 10mph impossible. it really is terrible. :deadhorse:

    moose.

I've always viewed it like this, 1/4 or less is called wisdowm strips. You're riding hard but not too hard for the street. 1/8 and you are either very good or insane....anything less and you are over your head on the street. Think about it, you're leaned over..knees draggin..you're at max lean....and here comes joe bob in his beater pick em up over the line....where the hell are you gonna go? he's not gonna hit the bike...but your head is like a softball on a tee.

I came back from a spirited ride with 1/8" on the left and about 1/4" on the right. The road was very curvy and I don't think went over 40 MPH at any point. Most of the curves were in the 25 MPH to 35 MPH range. I normally don't look at the chicken strips, but this thread made me curious.

I totally agree with what you said!

I should have labeled the thread "cord strips anybody?" as that was my main concern. Most of us that ride our bike to commute to work and do a lot of straight up riding have chicken strips, which is fine, just as long as you change that tire when the threads are showing!

Oh, and I tried to get another pic of his tire today, but it was rotated around so I could not see it again. Darn it!

    Congrats for trying LOL!

Who would have thought their would be a battle over chicken strips? I agree you can often tell someone doesn't know what countersterring is by looking at their back tire, but wear to the egde doesn't always indicate skill either.

Right, it could mean they propped the bike on its center stand and sandpapered the edges! I've seen it, don't laugh! :twitch:

With the certainty that there would be major entertainment value I looked. I liked Mr Sandy the best. That one ended the way I was hoping they all would: lack of front wheel traction leading to a hard learned lesson.

 I knew what you meant, just having fun, I hear ya, But. I have only a 170 rear so very easy to use all the tire. Beside they're sticky Pirellis  okay the rear is one thing, What about the front? I have a 1/4"-10mm-12mm up there.

Before I ride with new people, I check out their tires. Flat spots in the middle mean we probably won't make it out of town or off the interstate without being pulled over cause every light is a tree. If only the yellow dropped before the green...
I also check the strips. Its pretty evident who is gonna go down in the first turn they weren't ready for and who will be leading the pack through it. Stay away from both.

Me too RVFR. With the 170 I noticed you have alot more chicken strip on the front than the back, which is a good thing.

And I can say when you really get out on the edge, you have no room for error.

Thats as bad as the people who buy race/ track day tear offs and pull into the local Dairy Queen on Friday and Saturday nights!

What is it about Dairy Queen that attracts these homos?
