    Hi gang,
Just a heads up - there is a recall on the 2002 - 2004 linked brakes. Some of the proportioner valves are defective and leak or wont bleed completely. Have your dealer check it out.

    -Yeah its on VFRD.

You'd think Honda would put out a recall. Any idea if it goes beyondthe 02-04?

That recall came out 3 years ago.
I'm pretty sure a dealer can punch in your VIN to see if the recall was ever done to the bike (like if you bought it used).
I bought my '04 used. Last year, I noticed some brake fluid leaking (maybe a few drops per 1 hour ride) from around the battery area. Sure enough, it was the servo PCV. I found out about the recall, and took the bike to the dealer. They said the recall had been done to it, so it would not be replaced under the recall. It's like a $250 part, plus a good amount of labor. Luckily my bike came with an extended warranty, and it was covered.

The recall involves a bunch of other models that use the valve as well. The most common bike we sell covered was the GL1800. I've done dozens of those recall inspections, which basically involve a "stress test" for the PCV valve. I had two GL's fail months after I did the inspection by the book. I'm quite certain Honda's test could spot a currently faulty valve...but clearly doesn't gaurantee against failure in the future. On the bright side, the failure rate by percentage of bikes is very low. Still bears watching...even if you've had the recall inspection done on your bike.
