    Hey there,

Bought a 2004 VFR last year in April and I've been having a few issues.

First, when cruising at 50kph in town my revs are somewhere near 4000, but if I leave the throttle at that point I get a little drop in HP. Not enough to be a problem but when I try and compensate I inevitably accelerate too much. Would anyone know where this lag is coming from? It wouldn't be a problem, but I am in the military and the MP's are a little overzealous in enforcing the traffic laws on base since they have nothing better to do with their day.

Second, this winter I have been storing my bike in a friend's garage and have been starting it regularly since it's been in storage. Recently it hasn't been starting up. It turns over but won't fire. The battery is fully charged and we attempted to push start it but it didn't even chug. Any advise?

Yep, no other problems. I took it in to the shop and they did something. Apparently it's fixed now. Still wonder what the hell it was.

On the other hand, the lag at 4000-5000 RPM is still there. Curious.

Hey! I'm having this same problem! I have on '05 and I was just going to post the question and I read through and saw yours. Yesterday on a long ride I really started noticing it. At around 4500, cruising at a constant lower speed (coming down a mountain in pouring rain so I didn't want the rpms up) there is a significant drop of power and I noticed the speed drop about 5mph and then suddenly it feels like it catches and shoots forward. It can't be the VTEC because that doesn't kick in until closer to 7000rpms. It was very unnerving to be in a tight corner and have this happen! Did you ever figure out if this is normal or what the problem is?

    Thanks for any advice!
    VV

    Hey guys,

I just thought I would give my .02 on the drop at around 4000 rpms. It has something to do with the mapping. I can't tell you exactly what it is because my bike, an '03 has never had this problem, but it is common and some people on this board have bought power commaders to correct it. I am sure they can give you a better expanation. Hope this helps till they chime in.

    Paul

I was gonna say it sounds like the way the computer is mapped out. I agree a power commander will probably help in that dept, but since mine is not FI, I can't say for sure.

edited at a way later date for spelling and word omissions

As for me, no, I never did find out, mapping sounds like what it could be and I will be asking the dealer about it again (a different dealer this time) because they couldn't figure it out the first time.
