Until I scoop a pair of Helibars this summer, I am considering adjusting my stock bars by simply loostening the clamps and sliding them up to the fork pipe stop rings.
There's room for about 1/2" of upward movement. (may as well use it)

My previous bike (a Super Hawk) actually came with Helibars mounted all the way past the stop rings-flush with the top of the forks. I ran this way for two years with no loostening issues. I only realised the bike had these stop rings on the forks and that the bars were not properly installed when browsing my service manual.
Can't see why doing this would adversely affect the VFR, but I would rather ask the question for safety's sake.

Has anyone moved the stock bars up to the stop rings ?
Anyone removed the stop rings and moved the stock bars up to the top of the forks ?

    Thanks for any input.

    Yup,that's what I did.
Raised the clip-ons about 1/2" until flush with the top of the fork tubes.
Cost $0.00 and hasn't caused any problem at all.
As long as it doesn't bother you that the alignment tabs on the bars aren't engaged with the slots in the tree anymore, you'll be fine.

I've had mine up to the stop rings for about eight months with no problems, I also filed the stops to open up the bars abit more.

    Good stuff...
Thanks for the sanity check guys.
The fork stop ring is probably something Honda's lawyers made them put on the bike and the bar stops are probably a combination of that and ease of production line assembly to line up the bars perfectly.

I'll go ahead with this adjustment, and manage the additional risk by periodically double checking the torque on the attachment bolts.
...more often if the front wheel keeps popping up ! :)

You know this forum thing is cool. Ask a question and get good real-life feedback a few hours later on my laptop in the garage !
Now I'll sign off, crack open a beer and get my 12mm socket & torque wrench out and fiddle with the bike
    Life is good.
