OK, I am still debating the whole exhaust decision.. I have heard (in
person) and ridden on a '99 VFR800 w/Staintune with and without the spud...
IMHO, too much high frequency barking for my taste. I've run my VFR with
the pipe off a few times and it sounds nearly the same... I prefer a more
    mellow deep tone....

SO, I was doing some noodling on the internet and found a place in the
Netherlands (http://www.laserexhausts.com) that makes a deeptone exhaust for
    the VFR
    (http://www.laserexhausts.com/en/module/CATALOGUE_BIKES/bike-exhausts.html)..

They even have sound bites... (the pipe comes with two spuds)

    and the Laser "Sport"-

Question is this.... Does anyone in the Philly area have a Laser Duo-Tech
exhaust on their 98-01 VFR that I can hear for myself before I plunk down
    $400 clams for a slip-on ?

Anyone from farther away have any real life experience with this slip-on ?

Thx in advance for replies guys...

    sound bite.

hey i checked out the sound bite and it did not sound so hot to me, i have listened to several sound bites and my favorites where the 2bros, d & d and staintune. but i guess it is totally a personal preferance although those guys with the staintune will swear there is nothing better. i have personally heard the 2 bros c-5 can and at around 35 to 40 mph it has that v-8 rumble but the sound bite for the d & d sounds pretty similiar and way less expensive, anyway your choice good luck.

Hmmmm, yeah, I've listened to all of those...

But I like a more mellow low frequency sound than a loud and open pipes kind of sound...

Unless you are comparing the sound bites of the same biuke with the same recording equipment in the same position, it's really apples and oranges....

I am definitely looking at a slip on that has an insert so I can sneak around town if I want to.... Then pull out the insert on the days I wanna play Rossi v. The World.. hehe

    Micron is best

I did a lot of research before i purchased my exhaust upgrade, and I think that the best bang for you buck is the Micron exhaust. Not only can you get it in all sorts of colors, the high-mount kit fits the bike perfectly without the hassle of filing and everything like a 2 Brothers exhaust needs. The Staintune is too expensive, and it really only comes in polished metal finishes - and let's be honest, it's about the sound AND the look. Some people complain that the Micron is too loud, so I bought the Staintune baffle to put in the end when I am riding around town to tone it down. Micron gives a really nice, low rumble that the Staintune cannot match - I think it has to do with Staintune being packed with steel wool, and Micron is packed with fiberglass. I would steer away from 2 Brothers, everything I read made them sound like an inferior product compared to the others.

I read a lousy review about the Microns, but dear god...they sound glorious.
I think the comparo started out on a bad note with these guys anyway bc they got jerked around a bit when dealing drioectly with the company.

Anyway, it sounds like a freakin gorilla runnin up on ya! And he's mad. he's very very mad.
    Don't like the looks tho:frown:

Back when I had a 99 VFR (now an 02) I spend months doing the same research. Based on deep sound it really came down to 2bros and Micron. I went with the high mount CF oval 2bros as I was also running the GIVI hard bags and the fit of the bags w/ the luggage was perfect. The 2bros system produced a very deep thump and the pipe quality was VERY nice. However, I must add that I have heard the Microns and they are very deep also. In fact, I think they're a bit deeper than the 2bros.

    High Mount with Givi

A question about mounting the Givi luggage with a high-mount 2Bros. How did you do that? Is it with a wingrack or the tubular side rack? And do you have a picture of it that you could post? I have a high-mount Micron exhaust and I want to find a way to attach some Givi hard bags to my bike. So far, I haven't been able to get the wingrack to fit! Please let me know if you get a chance.

Also, I think Micron has a really nice deep note to it, and with all of the colors you can get, you can match it to your bike well. I have a red 2001 VFR, and got the black to red fusion oval can, and it looks great, I have to say. Micron gets my vote if I can just get these hard bags on!

The rack was the tubular rack. The Wing Rack may have worked but the tubular rack is less noticable when the bags are off. I'd say there was about 1.5 - 3 inches between the cans and the hard bags. There was really no significant heat transfer to the bags from the pipes. In fact, I remember the tops of the bags getting hotter than the sides by the cans due to the sun beating down on them. I have pictures but the pictures are with the stock canister, not the 2Bros.
