Tail of the Dragon on Fire by Steve Wednesday, April 16, 2008 A brushfire broke out along US 129, the stretch of highway known as "The Tail of the Dragon". The fire was apparently started by a motorcycle crash. A motorcyclist crashed his bike there, and it caught on fire, and spread to brush. At least 15 acres have already burned, and the fire is expected to burn through Thursday afternoon. The motorcyclist was not injured. This comes at a time when Tennessee Highway Patrol have apparently stepped up patrols on the famous highway, and when locals have been complaining about motorcycle riders going way too fast. Yeah, right... SOOOOO many people live on RT 129 ON THE DRAGON. Yeah, didn't you guys notice the 3 apartment complexes, 7 grade schools, 5 churches & the old folks home? KC-10 FE out... lane: :usa2:
We rode through there on Wednesday afternoon and there is nothing there but woods. However, we did see two or three police cars in the area of the Dragon over the 4 days we rode here. So if you are coming down, keep an eye out for them, they are around.
