    Hi all!

I recently purchased a 1982(as far as I know) VF400, and am having a hell of a time finding parts for it. I am a student so I was looking for a cheap bike and this one seems really nice, and not knowing anything about bikes I got it. It had been sitting in a garage for a couple of years so it needs a tune up in a bad way.
This is what I want to do with it:
    -Brakes
    -Change transmission Fluid
-Reattach screen(because it came off during transport)
    -Carb cleaning
    -New chain and sprocket
    -New Mufflers

The mufflers are both completely rusted through so the bike runs very poorly.

Do you know of any good places to get parts? (I'm in Vancouver BC), or any other bike models that would have indentical parts? (Maybe Vf500? they look identical)

Also, any more advice on what I should get done before I start riding it?

    Thanks in advance!

Depending on how many years it sat in the garage, if it had gas in the tank I would clean that in addition to the carbs.

Thanks for the tip! The tank has been taken off and drained. Do you know of any places where I can get a carb rebuild kit?

I've never had to do it, so I am not sure. I would google it, otherwise hopefully another member will chime in!

What country is that bike from? I don't think those were available in the US. I'd find out where it's from and call the dealership there.

    Here's a link to a VF400 page. http://www.bikepics.com/honda/vf400/
Doesn't look like yours is a 1982, possibly that's the 'born-on' date, if it is labled late 1982, it's probably the 1983 year model.
    Can't help with parts much.
Have fun riding and hopefully getting it fixed back up.

The VF400's are very similar to the VF500's, however there are some differences. The carbs are basically the same. You'll need to get a fiche for that model at minimum just to be sure. Those are pretty rare in the US but were really popular in the UK and Europe, you might try looking over there for parts.
