Wonder what my options are for steel braided brake lines for my non-ABS '03.

Ideally, i only want to do the front set of lines at this time, and a call into Galfer has not produced any results. The kit they make and sell for the 6th. Gen bike is $420 and only for the ABS model.

    Anyone have a recommendation ?

Before you do that, did you see the post about the brake recall?

Haven't seen the post, but did call honda to see if this recall applied to mine. They said it had already been done. Not sure if i believe him since he said there were no other outstanding recalls. Even though i know the wiring recall has not been done. .........after questioning him on that he did some back peddeling. *wasn't impressed.

I wish it was this easy. Any idea if they mean "leak" as in external fluid leak, or leak pressure internally, and cause my problem ?

This doesn't really sound like the cause of my issue.

Check Spiegler Performance - see if they would offer a front only kit. I had them make lines for me and I'm happy with the result.

I make my own lines, and I just got done doing a custom job on a 6th gen running new SS lines through the swingarm. I will eventually replace all the lines on my VTEC that way.

Yeah, found Spiegler tonite and will call them in the morning. They seem to do custom lines as well.

Seb, how do you make your own ? Care to make another set ?

I would love to, but am extremely busy lately! I just buy the hose in bulk, and the fittings(banjo bolts), then assemble in the right length.

The ends he uses are screw in like the steel braided fuel lines. They have and end that goes into the hose then a ferrel and finally the nut to tighten it down. Im sure he has that link handy and will post it any minute.

Find a place locally that makes hydraulic lines. I have a place that made custom lines for my bro-inlaws T-bird. Around $38 a piece. Stainless braided, u can also choose different colors. They are DOT certified. The screw in types are not if I remember correctly.

The place I use mainly does heavy lines up to 6000psi lines and create hydraulic rams for trucks.

I havent looked close enough to the bike to see if it is cost effective to do it that way or to buy the speigler or other lines.

I called Spiegler today, very nice guys. They dont make a kit for the Gen 6 bike, but he said just to take the lines off and ship them to him. Seem very reasonable to deal with.

I have a local hydraulic line place, but the last hoses i had made up were really expensive and they were'nt even steel braid. So im not really counting on them.

I'm curious, are any of you, when switching to ss lines, eliminating the linked brakes? If so, what do you do about the extra piston for the "linked" part? Do you just use a jumper from the piston next to it, or find other calipers not designed for linked brakes?

UPDATE: Sent off my front brake line assembly last week to Spiegler Performance to have them duplicate them in steel braid line.

Here's a comparrison pic showing the two pieces.

Service with Spiegler was great. They made my lines the day after they arrived, and shipped them that same day. We chose to eliminate the hard cross-over line due to the extra cost. And the 3 piece flexible line works just fine.

I installed it tonite, and the bleeding went totally smooth. No issues with the linked brakes whatsoever.

The guys at Spiegler are going to keep the specifications for this brake line set up so if anyone wants to order up a line they can simply place an order. (ask for John, Tell him i sent ya ) Cost was $166 and they have several colors to choose from if you want a colored line over the steel braid.

Very nice Tori! Thanks for the legwork. I might just go ahead and get a set sometime soon. I have a feeling this bike is going to see more track action than originally anticipated so the steel lines are a must.
