hello vfr buddies! i recently bought a 2002 honda vfr800 in excellent condition. the previous owner did a very good job keeping it in great shape including the battery, which hasn't been changed since new because he always had it connected to a battery tender. i decided to replace it with a new one, yuasa ytz12s. after installing it and making sure all contacts were in place, i started it but it wouldn't start. the new battery was charged overnight and was fresh, the starter worked but it seemed like there was no gasoline going thru because it wouldn't fire up. the tank is full and i wonder what is wrong with it. checked fuse and were ok. checked manual and followed tip: turn swith to run, open throttle, fire up starter for 5 sec but still wouldn't start. any info to resolve this dilema is welcome.
Hi cebu, checked manual and followed tip: turn swith to run, open throttle, fire up starter for 5 sec but still wouldn't start just wanted to check with you, by switch, do you mean the ignition key or the kill switch? important to make sure the kill switch is in the 'engine run' position. i know this is basic but sometimes easily overlooked.

From your post it sounds like the motor turns over but will not start. Can you hear the fuel pump wine when you turn the key to the on position? Action
Hi Cebu, i guess when your fault finding over the net you have to ask a lot of the obvious questions to eliminate the easy fixes first. have you ever heard or seen the bike running prior to getting it? if so was this just prior to the battery change? a mate once had a similar prob and we evenually traced it back to a bad connection on the side stand cut out switch given that all the normal safety devices which cut ignition are not the prob, and that youve checked fuses etc. you have only three areas to consider. Air , Fuel or spark. check the airway is clear and unobstructed ( No CPR required, LoL), if the injectors are spooling up, then are they delivering fuel? also is there spark to the plugs? really we may be talking about some dealer involve ment here, perhaps a quick call to the local dealer to discuss might throw some more light on it too. good luck buddy, keep us posted on progress!
hey bubba, the gear is in neutral and sidestand was down. i tried it with the side stand folded but still no luck. thanks for your input as well Richard. i have little experience regarding engines. will go to a honda dealer this weekend to resolve the issue.
finally solved the problem!!! power commander was connected to positive (+) instead of negative (-) causing all the trouble and head scratching!
