Hey folks, any first hand experience riding the Catskill region ?
Road conditions ? Favorite route ?
    Motel / hotel recommendations ?

Any feedback would be appreciated, as I am planning to head that way this summer.

I've been on Rt 23 and 23A from Oneanta to Great Barrington a couple of times working my way home from a trips out west, and those were nice stretches of road.

Sure man, I live in them! I can keep you busy all day on some really nice roads, twisty, scenic, whatever. An hour or all day. Send me a PM when you're ready. Look for a hotel in Catskill, NY, there is a Days Inn right off Exit 21 of the NYS Thruway, makes for a good starting point for rides.

Man am I glad I threw out this post !
Seeing your reply was like striking gold or something. Those pics are fantastic...I'm hype !!!
After familiarising myself with the lay of the land with my trip planner, I will DEFINATELY be communicating with you for details.

The idea to ride to the Catskills came to me while driving back from New York city a few weeks ago with my family for March break. Driving up the NY throughway I saw the signs and it triggered memories of people talking highly of this part of NY.
Last year we rode out to Maine, had a great ride. Now I'll start planning a Catskill trip for sure.
I've never ridden further south than to the Great Sacandaga Lake via rte 30 from Malone NY. This is not much further.

Thanks to you both for the replies.

Like I said, contact me when you're ready. I host a lot of rides in my area, for people from all over the northeast. I can accommodate any pace, but prefer spirited riding.

Please do let me know what your interests are, I've lived here my whole life, I can offer you tiring, gnarly twisties or scenic 2-lane, or both. i need to know how long you plan to stay, how you want to ride, single or two-up, coming here only, or splitting off for other areas, etc. I can get back to you with routes, I use MS Streets & Trips 2005, if that works for you. There will be a secrecy waiver that you need to sign if you opt for gnarly twisties, I prefer to keep the good stuff to myself, lol.

Here's some videos to whet your appetite:

Please don't let the pace in that vid scare you off, I do not ride like that all the time!!

You won't regret a visit to the Adirondacks or the Catskills. Fabulous roads, great scenery. Check this site for some route recommendations. My buddy and I typically take a week after the kids go back to school in September. I am told, that if you leave it too late into the fall that you will run into a lot of motorhomes clogging the roads looking at the changing leaf colour.

That website is a good starting point, but they don't include many of the gems I've grown to love around here.

This year I'm working on developing routes for myself in 50, 100, 150, 200, and 350 mile lengths. Something for any time slot!

    Good to know.

Not sure on compatability, but we can try. I just put a 220 miler together yesterday, but it has a few new-to-me roads on it, I will do a pre-ride to check it out later this week.
