Since I now teach MSF classes, I decided I needed a comfortable pair of motorcycle pants that still qualified as protective gear. I'm one of the types that can't stand the "Do as I say, not as I do" BS. If I tell the people that come thru my classes to protect their ass, I should too. I paid $70 at the local dealer I refer to frequently that gives a military discount.

    PROS:
look, fit, feel, act just like regular jeans
come in real sizes like jeans, not just sm, md, lg, xl
perforated leather in the butt, hips, & knees
"real" removeable armor in the knees

    CONS:
perforated leather in the butt, hips & knees makes your butt get HOT on 90+ days
like to ride down (nothing a belt wouldn't fix; since ALL my pants do this, it's probably my shape that's the problem)
"real" armor is not as good or strong as that in leathers
the Wife says the legs look kinda goofy
the legs openings flap in the breeze

All in all, they represent a decent product at a decent price. They do exactly what I wanted them to do; during my first class on 23 May, not a single person in the room could tell they were not "normal" jeans.

Today was my first lengthy ride (3.5 hours) in these jeans. Unfortunately, I must report that the leather sewn into the butt make for some significant discomfort after about 3 hours in the saddle. Looks like these will be used primarily for short trips & MSF classes. I'll stick with my Icon TiMax pants for longer rides.

I'm still looking for a good set of riding jeans.
    I saw the Icon Recon.

I have these KC and I do not experience discomfort in the saddle (I have had them awhile now though), however, I do agree with you that the knees look goofy(well, if you leave the knee pads in they do). However, that is the price you pay for some protection sometimes I guess. I figure they are safer than my regular jeans. Do yours have a weird leathery smell at all? I don't think I noticed it until after I cleaned them the first time. I replaced the button on one of my pair as it was flimsy and broke off.

Have you looked at the Icon Anthem pants? They are pricey ($110-125), but look to be of good quality. My brother, and reg both have them and like them fairly well.

My DSX have no funky odor. I followed the washing instruction on the tag & have had no issues yet. The discomfort I was talking about was a my butt gets real hot.

I've got a pair of these and went for about a 6 hour ride in them last summer. Don't remember any discomfort in the back side, my butt was sore, but I figured that was stock seat. Don't recall any smell either.
What I disliked about them was that the armor was below my knees while standing and i kinda had to gimmy the pant leg to get the armor over my knees while riding. Was a little nervous about where the armor would be if I needed it.

Still waiting on the proper sized Alpinestars jeans. I expect them any day. Abrasion resistant reinforced butt/hips, armored knees, $100. I liked them for the few minutes I tried on the too large pair. I will update when they arrive.

Yes. I bought them big to wear things underneath, and they were way big. So I bought my normal size expecting them to be big as well.

Jeans are here. Fit great with or without underarmor. Knee pads in the right spot. Abrasion resistant cloth inside clear down past the knees. Look just like painters pants except for a bulge at the knees. The pads are removeable for cleaning or low profile look. They do not zip into the jacket though, so no one-piece. Not the look they were going for-slightly more urban than I am used to, but not too urban.
