I’m looking at taking my first long trip on my new 2003 VFR800. I have a limited budget and want to know what is essential as to buy to improve ergos/comfort; below is my wish list:

    1. Heli Bars
    2. Corbin/Seagate Seat
    3. Throttle Lock/CC
    4. Double Bubble windshield

If you want the ultimate in cheapskate traveling just buy the following items:

    1. Bottle of Aleve
    2. Bicycle shorts (the one with padding)

I did a 500 mile trip in one day with the above and I just had a mild discomfort on my tush.

That takes care of buying a new seat for the trip thanks. I wouldn't have thought of that.

Just got back from a 4 day 2800kms ride in Aus on the standard saddle averaging ~700kms/day.

I have to say the standard saddle is pretty good.

I do wear Cordura with a kevlar padding in the rear though!

    Good list so far.

Also you can adjust the position of your clutch and brake levers. There is a good description of these changes in Lee Parks: Total Control. And they cost nothing other than time.

Another thing, learn how to adjust your bikes sag. This is basic suspension setup and you can find the basics of setting sag on www.feelthetrack.com
