So back in the day the good ole 1st gen v4 sportbike was named Interceptor, then as it progressed Honda dropped the interceptor badging to just VFR, Now it came back in 98 being known again as a VFR Interceptor. them even more interceptor press when the 6th gen came out. Does the 3rd and 4th gens have true rights to the name VFR? as interceptor never was used to describe it. making it a true VFR through and through VFR.

    Just for your reading pleasure.

    Hi,

As far as I'm aware it's always been a VFR here in England and always will be.

I guess some PR guy earing his keep making up different names for the same thing for different geographic regions.

    Regards,

    Scoot

Considering that 2007 was the 25th anniversay, I would say that is proof that Honda views the VFR and Interceptor as being the same.

Gotta' be honest this is the one thing I hate about my VFR. The fact that it is also called and badged "Interceptor". How corny is that??? Seriously. The "Interceptor"...ooooohhh look out! No wonder no younger riders want one

Well yes and no, Honda created the beast so Yes they more than anyone would know what they've created. Funny thing what marketing is, as noted in another post the interceptor name is sorta IMO kinda Silly doesn't hold water, but say VFR and folks know what it means. I believe Honda was looking to bring back what they had created and felt obligated to bring the name back after the fact. Funny thou the 3-4h gens actully had a race partner in the RVF series which also made folks relate. ala look at all the CBR lovers, you really think if the V4 of past was still there they wouldn't be selling? just look at the CBR600 OMG sales record off the charts. Honda for some reason probably from trickle down effect from racing in how it sells bikes. Took the VFR from that market and went another route. IMO that was a sad day, so many folks knew what's what. All thou I kinda like having a bike that few know of it's real potential.

The original VF/VFRs were known as Interceptors due to the fact they had a lot more in common with the early honda racing bikes. So when they came out the name ment something...

No VFR labeling on the bodywork, but the model is a VFR800FI.

Perhaps "Vinterceptor FR 750/800", or "VF Rinterceptor etc."
