They above views in no way represent the views of VFR WORLD or actual views of people that know how to install a chain the proper way. If the above post is used we will not be liable of maiming or death of rider. Using the above techniques may have side effects such as, scraped and burnt skin, internal injuries, bruising, loss of consciousness, bike total, hospital visit, crying and running nose.

The above post is representative of a person that has little self esteem and lacks that of REAL life friends who tends to apply himself to forums for medial attention. Do not blame the poster for lack of knowledge or over estimates his abilities as his frontal cortex is at fault. Thus we can only find amusement within his post rather than reality. I think I will start a new post so I will stop hijacking this one. Look for ELF AND WWFT (what would Freud think). Im sure we will go in depth with mother issues and societies abolishments.

The elf and wwft topic was already covered by myself in the 'nomination' thread. but I bet it could be explored further...there's plenty of material there.

Clip-type master links ARE available for the VFR. However, it is called out in the Honda service manual to NOT use this type of chain.

It specifically mentions that the riveted type is the only style that is acceptably safe on the VFR.

I have used the clip style on every chain I have replaced, and not had any problems. I bought an inexpensive chain press many moons ago when I started using O-ring chains, and just finally broke down and bought the entire tool kit including the riveting tool.

The reason for buying the riveting tool is that the last chain I bought did not come with a clip-style master link, and it did not occur to me to check, so I had to make a 60 mile round-trip back to town to get one.

When I think about it, though, it had been some years since I bought a chain. Professional ventures were occupying a lot of time, and I wasn't riding much. It could be that the clip-style links have always been an option, but I used to remember to ask for them.

And is it just me, or does the master link never seem to have enough grease supplied with it? I always end up using an xacto knife to scrape a little more of some of the chain side plates to put on the links.

yeah as RVFR said, it's the dry clutch. first time one rolled up on me I told him his bike was broken. I guess you get used to it. I hear that the Ducatisti are up in arms about the move to wet clutches that is upcoming... anyway, to get back on topic, I just did a chain replacement last year and it was my first time doing one without a clip master link. It was pretty easy and, providing you have the right tools, most anyone could do it. I bought the RK set that had chain and front and rear sprockets so that I knew they would match. There are two different chain styles for the VFR depending on if your front sprocket is the stock with rubber bushing or aftermarket without. As long as everything matches, it's not too hard a process and I think the owners manual even covers it. I bought the motion pro chain rivet tool but I imagine they are all about the same.

I politely, yet vehemently, disagree with SLOVFR's apparent point-of-view regarding elf's procedure.

That's exactly the way I've done it for many years with clip-type master links on many powerful bikes ridden very hard & very fast (Autobahns, Nurburgring, Spa, etc.), with never a problem - when performed carefully and correctly.
    * I clean and lube my chain(s) frequently, including a quick visual inspection after every ride.

BTW - a hacksaw with carbide-tip blade (about $10) will remove the old chain inexpensively, albeit somewhat slowly and laboriously (compared to a Dremel-type tool).

Ultimately, one could purchase a complete OEM "endless" chain and sprocket kit ($$), and remove the swingarm (involved, but not too difficult) for installation.

**No, I haven't bothered to read this entire thread (too much drivel); I balked when I got to this point and felt obligated to comment/rebut.
