So I removed the bolt and nut that held it down, and removed the fuel gauge wire. Yet the tank is not lifting up from where it is mounted. What am I doing wrong?

It's probably stuck to the rubber isolators. You pulled the whole long bolt and nut out, right? mine was a little stuck when I pulled it off.

It should lift up on the back, just far enough so that you can disconnect the fuel lines from the on/off switch (which should be "off" at this point  ) There are three, one on the switch, and two on the bottom of the tank.

Once the lines are disconnected, you should be able to wiggle the tank up, back, and off the frame mount points at the front.

Ya, it's got to go up and toward the rear to get the rubber bushings out of the groove in the front mount.

    If I recall there's:
tank bolt, fuel line, wire connector, vent tube and overflow tube to disconnect

There may or may not be a sleeve that the long mount bolt goes into. If that bolt is off center, it will hold up the back of the tank. You don't necessarily have to remove the sleeve, just ensure that it's centered.

Dang nothing left to throw in. Good job guys, oh, other than a pair of needle nose pliers to get to the clamps, I found it easier if you use a piece of wood 4"-6"(block) to hold up the rear of the tank, oh and if you can try doing this on an empty tank as possible. But yea if it ain't been off in a while, no doubt the rubber do-hickies have it. should pull up and back, give it a wiggle she'll come off, oh another thing watch for the lower rubber dampeners the ones between the frame and tank, you can see see little like 1' squares, they tend to fall off, and you'll need em when you put it back on.

I forgot about the sleeve. Doug has a good point - if that sleeve is off center, it will hang up on the tank.

-Mac- got your tank off yet???
