A salesman told me when I added an aftermarket exhaust I also had to install a power commander and get my bike tuned in? It's an 06 VFR. Any truth to this or advice? Also, all I'm adding is slip-ons, not the full system.
From what I know, if you alter the exhaust flow, there is a requirment to alter the jetting. However, SInce you own a 06, your EFI system should be able to make changes necessary for your bike to run smooth. Question is about throttle response. Tests have shown having a PCII or III dosen't add any signifcant horsepower, but rather gives you more control of the throttle with out having any hesitation that seems to be the norm of just changing your exhaust. Hope this helps.
Your bike will run fine it's not necessary to keep your bike running right but it's definitely beneficial. That being said I highly recommond getting a pc it will make the bike run smoother and with the proper map it will make more power more then the exhuast will. Often times peak HP will only go up 2 or 3hp but if you take a look at hp & torque on a dyno some of the mid range improvements are dramatic compared to stock. This is all provided you have a custom map made which is another few hundred dollars. I put pipes on my VFR first then the PC with a canned map and it was noticeably smoother and faster. The custom map on my RC51 made a huge difference.
