Anyone have any trouble with the rear seat cowling on a sargent seat?

I really like the seat but can't get the back to latch with the cowling in place.
Is this a common problem on the sixth gen seat?

I think I know what's happening...The bottom edge of the cowling is hitting the passenger grab rail. When you push down on the seat to contact the latch you must also squeeze the cowling in to clear the grab rail bases on both sides. The Sargent passenger location of the seat seems to be just a tad bit wider than the stock seat. Just squeeze in the sides and push down, it will lock pretty easy. I have no problems latching mine and it doesn't contact the grab rail base when latched.

This is quite common on the Sargents, I had to do a little shaving with a razor knife on the plastic part of the rear metal U shaped catch on the Sargent till it started snapping into place, I think I made the same thread when I first bought my Sargent

I just bought a Sargent Seat this past weekend. I had no troubles putting it on with the rear cowl attached.

I just added a Sargent this last weekend. This was my same experience. Fits just fine now, I love it.

Thanks for the tips everyone. Mine slips on like the stock seat now, but it's good to know about these mods.

Hmm. The passenger grab handles aren't the reason.. It just seems like I can't push it down far enough to catch. I'll start shaving the plastic back a bit i guess..

Do you have the one piece Sargent seat or the two piece?

Have you made sure the tool kit isn't sticking up too high?

I have a two piece and really enjoy having the storage area under the
passenger seat area (with the passenger seat off and using the rear cowl).
