Although my new bike is in fantastic shape, there are minor nics and marks on the fairing from road riding. I'm a fanatic about clean toys so I'm thinking about having it repainted. Does anyone know where I can find the oem paint code and replacement VFR decals?

Not to rain on your parade, but that '90 looks too damn nice to be repainted.

Plus, everytime someone sees the bike, they'll say, and I quote, "Nice bike. How'd you wreck it?" They will know that it's been repainted, because 18 year old paint seldom looks new.

I have a few nicks and scratches in my '96, but I (and many others on this board) will consider it "character". I would not consider a re-paint unless an entire panel needed it or if it needed tin work.

Hell, I think the original owner in NC crashed it at one time, and got a full insurance fix-it (Honda OE painted replacement panels...). The right panels are 1/4 shade darker in direct sunlight, and there are mysterious scrapes on the frame near the foot peg. It even has a slip on where a destroyed OE pipe might have once been.

But would I ever consider a repaint? Only if the bike was ratty looking without it. And despite the fact that you are a "fanatic" - we will all agree that yours is once of the nicest 3G's on the board, especially for a 1st year SSSA. Plus, that first scrape or nick following your repaint will have you pulling your hair out.

    Just my 2 cents.

The OEM paint code for Italian Red is R-157. Where or who you can take that paint code to is another story.

Any dealer can order decals, or try someplace like this.

    OK, leave the paint ALONE!

If you ride any and I mean ANY machine, it will get nicks dings and the like...my suggestion is take your key and drag it across some part of the bike. If you do this, nothing will happen to your bike! Its a great system!

Have the honor to key it yourself so no one else will:)!

    Ok... ok...

I'll back off of the paint job for now. :pout:

Another newbie question, how do I get my aftermarket seat off without breaking it. I'm looking for a storage area on the bike to keep my registration.

Look at your back left passenger foot rest. You'll see a key hole torwards the top. Use your ignition key and turn it torward the right. Once you've done that pull the black piece of metal beside the key down as far as you can and lift your seat straight back and up.

Should come right off without being forced.

I recommend getting a shop manuel too! www.amazon.com or www.denniskirk.com.

    You'll be happy you did.
