Nice of you to speak up for your buddy.

You want to know the irony? That's all really just a BS smokescreen, because when they meet a guy like me who actually DOES need them that much and offers it, they get scared and run away so fast you'd think they were going to live with their auntie and uncle in Bel-Air. Life sucks. :frown:

Wow, I never realized I had it so good. I bought my first bike, a Katana 600, and rode it for several years. My wife never complained a moment, she rarely rode with me, but didn't mind when I went for a ride. She knew I would be in a better mood when I got home, no matter what mood I was in when I left.

I was on the fence about buying the VFR, I had wanted one for years, but I wasn't in a hurry to get into another payment. But she TOLD ME to go buy it, so I did. :)

She wanted to learn to ride the Katana, and while she did learn a little, she never got the hang of it. She was too scared of the power. So it's going up for sale this month. She still wants to learn, but on something smaller and lighter.

My mom's reaction was just simply "Be carefull." She couldn't say much since she rode a bike to work in the early 80's.

My dad, I asked him if he wanted to take it for a ride, he said "No, because if I do, I'll go buy one." LOL. He's also had several street and dirt bikes in his time. So bikes were just a part of my family.

But just or good measure, I better hug my wife and thank her. :)

You want some advice...be a dick. They love it. Treat them like they are completely replaceable. In fact, show them that in everything you do. Dude, some women are really insecure...in my experience, they want to be the "good, stable" part of the relationship. When a guy provides that half, they seem to feel inadequate. So, play the part...be a douche bag. I'm slowly learning how to after years of overexertion. Trust me...it's a lot easier.:thumb:

Now THAT'S hilarious! I actually laughed long enough for tears to form. Well, dskelton, you ARE the King of the Comebacks!

One other story: Many moons ago, like 30 years or so, helmets were not mandatory, and I was too broke for one anyway. My sister used to cut out and send me newspaper articles about motorcyclists who were either dead or vegetables because they crashed without a helmet.

I finally bought a "Rebcor" full-face for the princely sum of $25, mostly because I couldn't see in the rain above 30MPH. I dutifully called my sister to let her know that I was now protected by all of the virtues that a helmet could provide. About a week later she sent me an article about a motorcyclist who crashed wearing a full-face helmet. There was fire involved and the face shield melted to his face...

There is no satisfying some people.

Advice I've heard more than once, and advice I've followed on at least one occasion with both great difficulty and a degree of success. Never would have believed it had I not seen it. Still, if I have to play silly mind games, I'm still going to be miserable, so I'll just stick to being miserable without the emotional and financial burden for now.

Thanks, Jason. Our boys have killed scores of TB, and regained a lot of ground, but they just do not ever go away completely. They know they are getting thier asses kicked, and when that happens, they go desperate and start ramping up the IEDs and Suicide attacks. So, I am not out of the woods just yet. I am "out" working at one final firebase, near where 2 of our boys were just killed by an IED (it was on Fox News yesterday). I am talking with the A-team and making sure the rest of the guys are okay mentally. 3 others are en route to Walter Reed for higher level care.

You know the deal....I will not exhale that "post-deployment sigh of relief" until I am on a C-17 that just went wheels-up from Spang or Al Udeid en route to Pope. That will hopefully be in a few weeks.
