A little more power

    Hi guys.Iam from Greece and a new owner of a 2005 Vfr blue.My former bike was a V-strom1000.Used to V2 i need a little more power till 5000rpm from Vfr.Do you think that pipes-PCommander-O2 eliminators will give me the power i need?How much more power do i gain?Any other ideas?Thank you!

    you can expect to tack on maybe 5 horseys. The power delivery will be much smoother, but it won't be a drastic gain. I have all those mods and the bike is more powerful, but not by a lot. It is enough for me though!

    ok and what about the fuel consumption?Does it increase dramatically?

    it depends on the map you load onto the PCIII. I initially had the wrong map loaded and the bike was just guzzling fuel. Now I have the correct map ****-003 loaded (the staintune map, even though I have LV pipes) and the bike is not too bad on fuel, it runs super smooth and the power delivery is definitely slightly higher. (bike wants to power wheelie a lot more)

    At the very least shedding the stock pipes will lose quite a few lbs and free up a some ponies as well. Just shedding weight is like gaining HP.

    Hi - this may not be the answer you're looking for, but different approach to getting a littel more oomph in the low end is to drop the gearing; EITHER - swap in a 16T front sprocket (easiest), or swap in a 45T rear sprocket (add 2 links to std chain length - e.g. 108->110). This will lower and close up the gear ratios a bit giving quicker rev response. You might also consider changing the fuel pressure regulator (FPR) to the currently advertised one which ups it from 35psi to 42-44psi. Much improved response, and closed-to-open glitchiness goes away. Can be found at:

    According to the Ron Ayers website (www.ronayers.com)
    the part # for the FPR for the 05 and the 08 are almost identical, with the last 3 digits slightly changing indicating an upgrade. '05 - 003, '08 - 013. You could email TurboCity and ask if there's any difference between the 05 and 08 FPR for the VFR. I've spoken with him/them
    they're very helpful and usually return emails pretty quickly.

    A stock VFR already has a 16t sprocket up front. I think he meant to say to swap the 16t for a 15t. This won't give you a horsepower advantage, but it will give you a mechanical advantage. You'll lose a few mph on the top end, but for most people that's an acceptable compromise.
